After 12 Years, I Finally Earned My First Hyatt Brand Explorer Award!

Good afternoon everyone, it’s time to pop the champagne bottles!  After 12 years, I finally earned my first Hyatt Brand Explorer Award! If you are not familiar with the Hyatt Brand Explorer, you earn a category 1-4 free night certificate after every 5 different Hyatt brands that you stay at.  As of now, Hyatt has 32 different brands, so you could earn up to 6 Brand Explorer Awards.  Scroll down to see the current list of brands.

On Friday, February 21, I went to a Warriors @ Kings NBA game in Sacramento and stayed at the nearby Hyatt Centric Downtown Sacramento.  Fast forward to today (Monday, February 24), I received an email from Hyatt congratulating me earning a Brand Explorer Award.

To check your Hyatt Brand Explorer progress, sign into your Hyatt account, clicked on My Account, and then clicked on Brand Explorer.  Here you can see all the brands you have stayed at and your progress toward a Brand Explorer Award.  Since I have no Hyatt status and no longer have a Chase Hyatt credit card (I closed the old Chase Hyatt credit card before the forced conversion to the new Chase World of Hyatt Credit Card), I can see that I joined Hyatt Gold Passport (the predecessor to World of Hyatt) on August 21, 2012.

Over those 12 years, I have stayed at 2 Andaz Properties (Andaz Papagayo in Costa Rica and Andaz Amsterdam Prinsengracht), the 1 Hyatt Centric in Sacramento, and many Hyatt House, Hyatt Place, and Hyatt Regency properties around the United States.  Interestingly, my 2 night stay at the Park Hyatt Paris Vendôme in 2013 using the 2 free night certificates from the sign up bonus on the old Chase Hyatt credit card did not count toward my Brand Explorer progress.

To see your previous Hyatt stays, click on My Account, then My Stays, and then Past.  Unfortunately, you can only see your previous stays from the last 2 years – there is no ability to search farther in the past.  Over the last 2 years, I have only booked 2 stays from my Hyatt account.  Since Laura has the Chase World of Hyatt Credit Card, has Hyatt Discoverist Status, and receives a category 1-4 Hyatt Free Night Certificate each year, we normally book stays from her account.

To see the Brand Explorer Award, click on My Account, and then Awards.  This categories 1-4 Hyatt Free Night Certificate expires in 1 year from issue.

In Laura’s Hyatt account, it shows her Discoverist Status expiration date but not her original World of Hyatt sign up date.  She applied for a Chase World of Hyatt Credit Card in January 2019 and I believe Chase created her Hyatt account then.  As of today, she needs 1 more Hyatt brand to earn her first Brand Explorer Award, so if there is an opportunity to stay at any of these other Hyatt brands in the near future, we will be sure to make the reservation from her Hyatt account.
