Good afternoon everyone, this is an update to a few of my recent posts. Yesterday, Staples ran an Easy Rebate on Visa Gift Cards (purchase $250 or more in Visa Gift Cards and receive a $20 Visa Gift Card as a rebate). I called around to a few local Staples stores and only one had a few $200 VGCs in stock. I told the cashier to hold 2 cards for me and I quickly drove over. After talking to the cashier, he mentioned that they should receive a new shipment of gift cards that evening. If I wanted more, I should call back tonight or tomorrow morning to see if the gift cards arrive. If you have not picked up your VGCs, I would call around to see if your local Staples stores have any VGCs available or when a new shipment of VGCs should arrive.
After leaving Staples, I drove over to Lowe’s to partake in the Lowe’s AMEX Offer from this morning (receive a $10 statement credit after spending $50 at Lowe’s).
I purchased 6 $50 Amazon Gift Cards in 6 separate transactions and received an email from American Express after each purchase. $300 of Amazon credit for only $240 (after the statement credits post). Now I get 20% off on all my upcoming Amazon purchases.
Last but not least, I stopped by FedEx Office to see what I could buy to fulfill the FedEx Office AMEX Offer from this morning. The store I went to was divided into different sections, with half the store dedicated to the shipping service. The funny thing about that is that the AMEX Offer specifically excludes the shipping service from receiving the statement credit. Anyway, I walked around the store and found a few rolls of packing tape (the really strong tape). The price was pretty high, but the total came to $21.79. I asked the cashier to do a split tender with $10 on the first card and the remaining balance on the second card. I swiped my AMEX Platinum and PRG credit cards and received 2 emails from American Express a few seconds later.
If you have any questions, please leave a comment below. Have a great day everyone!
Grant, good post. I synced my cards and will head out to Lowe’s soon. The exclusions say corporate gift cards don’t qualify, so I would be a little wary.
I think that might refer to corporate Lowe’s Gift Cards, but if you want to wait a few days, I will let you know when the Lowe’s purchases post and if/when the statement credits post.
If you go to their website, they have the corporate gift cards there. They are just Lowe’s GCs. I think Grant is right. Also the terms do not exclude physical gift cards bought on-line. So as long as you don’t buy the corporate ones (or electronic ones), you can buy the regular physical Lowe’s ones on-line and they should qualify for the credit. Saves a trip to the store if that’s what you want.
If you want other merchant gift cards you will have to visit the store, which is what most of us will do.
Thanks for the info, I live in an apartment right now, so there are not many things I can buy at Lowe’s (Home Depot or OSH for that matter). Which gift cards are you gunna get?
Hi Grant,
Definitely Amazon. We have 18 cards between wife and I. Used Tweetdeck to sync them all simultaneously. I’ll drive the cashier insane if I try to do all the cards at once so I’ll probably make a few trips. Other than Amazon, probably go for some gas station cards, maybe Starbucks, restaurants. Of course the longer I wait, the less choices, probably. I’ll have to wait until tomorrow unfortunately. I’m sure there are others going through those gift card racks as I write this.
Thanks for the heads up on the BW deal. I missed seeing that one this morning on the https://offersbot.io/offers site. Perfect timing. Just booked the BW in Costa Mesa a few weeks from now. Came out to just over $100 so that will work out great.
I’m sure there will be plenty of gift cards left when you show up tomorrow. Glad you got a good deal at the Best Western in Costa Mesa. What brings you there, shopping at South Coast Plaza? :)
Once a month or so I drive up from San Diego for business. I’ll stay one night usually and hit the Harp Inn (Irish bar) for some good live music and Guinness. Now if I brought my wife or daughter with me, I would be the unpaid Uber driver to South Coast Plaza, no doubt.
Haha, sounds like a fun weekend trip. I’m not a huge fan of Guinness (not even after visiting the brewery in Dublin), but I hope you enjoy your trip to Harp Inn. Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
To you as well!
speaking of costa mesa (i work there) the staples on 17th street there had TONS of $200 vgc’s. i only got 4, but i’d guess they had at least 20 or more left …. I guess not too much MS’ing/ ppl in that area interested in them .. or they just got a new shipment
Thanks for the update, Alex. I would just buy 2 $200 VGCs at Staples and leave the rest for everyone else. Then stop by Office Depot / Office Max and get your fill of whatever else you need. That’s MSing responsibly :)
Thanks, Grant and Kent C. I will load up on Shell gas cards if they have the $50 denomination ones
Mind helping a newbie who doesn’t tweet. I synched by AMEX Card with my new Twitter account. I then found the Lowes offer I was looking for. Next step says to tweet this #AMEXLowes. That’s where I stuck where and to whom do you tweet this?
Great question, you have to tweet to @AmexOffers, so your tweet would look like this: @AmexOffers #AmexLowes
You should get a tweet back saying thank you for enrolling in the offer.
Got it thanks. Next Q. The offer reads like its a one-time offer but you made 6 purchases. Is that with the same card or 6 different amex cards?
I used 6 different AMEX cards, all enrolled in the offer.
Do you have a different login for each card? I have 2 cards on 1 login and it won’t let me add it to both.
You have to do the multiple tabs trick to add the same offer to multiple AMEX cards. Check out this post from Frequent Miler: http://frequentmiler.boardingarea.com/2013/12/04/maximizing-amex-sync-offers-part-1-sync-multiple-cards/
MSing responsibly.
I like that. Especially during the promo periods like this one at Staples.
I might be the only one, but it might help someone :)
Hey Grant. Great post as always. You might want to mention the Chevron $5 off $25 off though. #AmexChevron I believe. Just synced it to all my accessible cards. Runs through May 15th I think.
Good morning Glenn, I mentioned the Chevron offer in the previous post but have not taken advantage of the offer yet.
Would I be able to buy Lowe’s gift cards with Serve authorized users that are not in my name? Does Lowe’s check the name on the card?
The store I went to didn’t check the names on my cards, but you have to enroll all those AMEX cards in the Lowe’s offer.
