Good morning everyone. Last December, I applied for the JPMorgan Chase Ritz Carlton Credit Card which offered 140,000 Ritz Carlton Points (Ritz Carlton and Marriott points can be used interchangeably). During the approval process, the system created a new Ritz Carlton account number for me. After meeting the minimum spend requirement, I had an old Marriott account with 28,985 points and a new Ritz Carlton account with 150,000+ points.
I added both accounts to my Award Wallet account (link) and did not touch either account for a few months. Last week, I called the Ritz Carlton Concierge department (1-877-408-5536) and asked if I could combine the 2 accounts. The rep told me that it was not possible since the addresses did not match. After verifying my address, she applied to same address to both accounts and was able to combine my accounts. Since I like my Ritz Carlton account number, I asked to move my Marriott points and free night certificate to my Ritz Carlton account.
The transfer was instant and my Ritz Carlton account now had 151,626 points (including the 28,985 points from my old Marriott account).
The free night certificate transferred over as well and kept the same expiration date (I was hoping the expiration date would reset, but it stayed the same).
After refreshing my Award Wallet account, the Marriott Points and free night certificate showed up in my Ritz Carlton account. I then deleted my old Marriott account from Award Wallet.
If you have any questions, please leave a comment below. Have a great day everyone!
How often does that Ritz card offer come around?
I’m not sure. I haven’t seen the offer since December/January. Ritz Carlton changed the offer from 140,000 points to 2 free nights the last time the offer was available.
The 2 free nights are tier 1 – 4 as of now. I’m guessing those tier 4 properties aren’t particularly interesting.
Yes, it is incredibly difficult to redeem the free night certificates. :(
Did the Lifetime total night also combine and stacked? If it did, it would be a very nice tool to get lifetime gold.
I’m not sure, I don’t remember. If it shows 65 lifetime nights, then it must have stacked since I’ve never stayed at a Ritz Carlton hotel, but then again, I don’t remember stating that many nights at Marriott either.
Some of your Marriott nights came from having the Marriott CC. You get 10 to 15 nights depending which version you have. The rollover nights also count.
Gotcha, that would explain the high number.
If I have a free night certificate from Marriott’s megabonus and I merge my Ritz Carlton and Marriott accounts. Will the certificate be transferred so that I can use it at Ritz Carlton properties? Thanks!
Yes, your certificate will be moved over to your new Ritz Carlton account.
