Which Password Do You Use to Sign Into Your New Marriott Account?

Over the weekend I received a bunch of calls and emails from friends and family members telling me they couldn’t sign in to their newly combined Marriott account. If it had only been one or two people I might not have thought much about it. But with this much confusion going on I wanted to dig deeper and see what the issue was.

I hadn’t logged into my own account for a few days, and sure enough when logging into my account after a few failed attempts I realized what the issue was. I’m sharing this just in case you or someone you know is having trouble or is confused. You may want to grab a shot of espresso because this is confusing.

Marriott/SPG linking accounts instructions

Is anyone else confused by this??

When we start to combine our Marriott and SPG accounts, we’re given the choice of which PROFILE to use. We either choose our previous Marriott profile or our previous SPG profile. In my case, as well as with the friends and family who called on me to figure this out, we were all SPG people so we opted to keep our old SPG profile as the one we used when combining accounts. However, Marriott then assigns you a new MEMBER number.

Let’s say you had both a Marriott and SPG account prior to the blended accounts. And then you chose to keep your SPG profile when combining accounts. You attempt to log into your Marriott account and you put in your new Marriott member number. If you use your Marriott PASSWORD it will not work. You’ll have to log in with your SPG password because you kept your SPG profile.

Yes, I know all this is confusing and of course you can reset your passwords, but I just wanted to give you a heads up on this password issue. If you opted to keep your SPG profile as the one Marriott is now using, when you sign in use your SPG password and you’ll be good to go.

You got a different SPG number regardless of if you chose SPG or Marriott.

Coronary to your choice, I went with Marriott because the number remained the same and I have been with them since 2002 (versus 2005 with SPG). I found the process to be simple and very straight forward as the only issue I encountered was probably due to heavy site traffic.

Interesting data point, Kalboz. When you chose to use the Marriott profile, are you able to use your old Marriott password to log in?

Perhaps you meant corollary, but if you did indeed mean coronary, that’s funny. Being in such great health I’m happy to report I felt frustrated but otherwise well.

Yes, the old Marriott info including password remain the same. I was able to see the new SPG account number on AwardWallet.

Apologies, auto correct is giving me so much grief! I meant to say contrary! :)

Even though I’m more of an SPG guy, I guess I’ll just go with the Marriott option if that will keep my number the same. Good to know this tip, though for those who want to go the other route.
