Dell Technologies 10% Cash Back AMEX Offer Stacks with Business Platinum $100 Dell Statement Credit

Good morning everyone, I hope your weekend is off to a good start.  A few weeks ago, Doctor of Credit reported that there was a new AMEX Offer for Dell Technologies: 10% cash back up to $1,500 that expires on August 31, 2020.  I immediately looked for this AMEX Offer on my cards and found it on my American Express Business Platinum Card.  I didn’t have any immediate uses for any Dell products until last week.  Dell was participating in a St. Patrick’s Day promo and offering 10% cash back.  I decided to check out the site to see if there was anything on sale that I needed.

Before I went shopping on Dell’s website, I made sure to check my Benefits tab for my AMEX Business Platinum to confirm that I was enrolled in the Shop Dell with Business Platinum benefit.

The Shop Dell with Business Platinum benefit is only offered on the AMEX Business Platinum and provides a $200 statement credit for Dell purchases.  The only catch is that you get a $100 credit for January 1 – June 30 and another $100 credit for July 1 – December 31.

Before shopping on Dell’s website, don’t forget to check out Cash Back Monitor to see which online shopping portal has the best rates.  These rates change daily and often go up much higher during shopping promos (up to 10-14% cash back).  Here are the current Dell Consumer rates as of March 21.  Use your favorite shopping portal or whatever shopping portal has the highest rates.

A few days after placing my Dell order, I received 10% cash back from the above AMEX Offer ($10.77 cash back) and the $100 credit from the Shop Dell with Business Platinum benefit.  I spent $107.66 with Dell and received a total of $110.77, which is why I have a negative balance of $3.11.  This is in addition to the cash back I earned using a shopping portal.

It’s not all sunshine and rainbows with AMEX.  Last year, Doctor of Credit reported that American Express clawed back Dell credits where members received more cash back and credits than they spent on Dell purchases.  I expect that will happen again later this year and I expect to see a charge of $3.11 show up from AMEX.  Here is the math: $107.66 – $10.77 (10% cash back) = $96.89 – $100.00 (Dell credit) = -$3.11.  If you have any questions about this benefit, please leave a comment below.  Have a great weekend everyone!
