Good evening everyone! In tonight’s post, I am going to show you how to stack these 2 AMEX Offers:
- Hilton Garden Inn: $35 off $175
- Hilton Portfolio: 3,000 AMEX Membership Reward Points with $200 purchase
Hopefully you can add both AMEX Offers to the same AMEX card (preferably the AMEX Hilton HHonors Surpass Credit Card). In my case, I added both AMEX Offers to my AMEX Platinum Charge Card.
After successfully adding both AMEX Offers to your AMEX card, book a paid Hilton Garden Inn hotel stay.
In my case, I stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn in Redding, California (about 2 hours north of Sacramento and 2 hours south of the Oregon border). Before I go on, I just want to give a quick shout out to this hotel because they are so awesome. This hotel offers a complimentary shuttle to and from the Redding Airport. Unfortunately, the shuttle does not run 24 hours, but in the off chance that you need to go to or from the Redding Airport when the shuttle is not running, the hotel will organize and pay for your taxi ride to and from the airport. How awesome is that?!
At the end of your lovely stay at the Hilton Garden Inn in Redding, tell the front desk rep that you want to charge exactly $200 to your AMEX card that has the 2 AMEX Offers linked, and put the rest of the charge on your Citi Hilton HHonors Reserve Credit Card (or other travel reward credit card). After checking out, I received 2 automated AMEX Offer emails telling me that my charges qualified for the 2 AMEX Offers.
After a few days, the $35 statement credit should post for the first AMEX Offer. My statement closed on September 1, I paid the bill on September 4, and the $35 statement credit posted on September 8.
After waiting a few more days, the 3,000 AMEX Membership Reward Points posted for the second AMEX Offer. After speaking to an AMEX rep prior to receiving both bonuses, I was told that each bonus could take up to 60 days from the date the charge posted to my card.
If you have any questions, please leave a comment below. Have a great day everyone!
Has anyone tried using this to book a Hilton outside the US? I know the T&C state it’s only for the US but I was wondering if it’d work for stays outside the US. I’ve seen previous offers with such T&Cs but they’ve worked sometimes for stays booked overseas.
Good question. It is always worth a shot, but if the AMEX Offers do not post automatically, you may be out of luck. I believe the reason most international merchants are excluded from AMEX Offers is because the merchant categorization codes (MCC) differ slightly from country to country. If you do try to complete the AMEX Offers at an international hotel, please let us know how it goes. Good luck!
I’ll give it a shot. I have a few stays coming up at Hilton in NZ. I’ve also read data points suggesting that at certain hotels, if you go to the Hilton Hotel front desk and purchase a gift card, that also triggers the offer as it often gets coded as a stay.
I’ve done that a few times for hotels in the US. I believe Marriotts and Courtyard Marriotts the gift card trick works :)
Do you have to charge exactly $200? If the bill is over $200, couldn’t you just pay the whole bill with the Amex card and still get the two bonuses?
Yes you could, but on my AMEX Platinum, I only earn 1x AMEX MR point, so I could earn more using a different credit card.
Does this work with gift cards? Can I purchase $200 of gift cards at an HGI and get one or both bonuses?
It should count, assuming HGI sells gift cards.
I’d assume prepaid stay would trigger both offers, as it was the case during the last round of amex offers some time early this year.
Yes, I don’t think prepaid or changeable/cancellable reservations make any difference for these AMEX Offers.
