What is the Future of Plink?

I’m not gunna lie, I really do like Plink.  I’ve been a member for a long time and have amassed over 21,000 Plink Points over the months.  Whether you have been a (Plinkster? Plinker? PlinkPanther?) for a long time or just recently, you probably see the potential Plink has to be great.

21000 Plink Points

But the problem with Plink is, they are only as good as the merchants they partner with and the Plink Points the merchants offer for purchases.  We have had periods of really exciting merchants (mainly Staples for a long time, followed by a shorter stint with Office Depot), but right now, there really is nothing to get too excited about.  Granted I love my fast food, going to the movies, buying shoes and flowers, but there is more to life than those things.  Trust me on this.

Plink Current Partners

So what is next for Plink?  I really have no idea.  I tweet them occasionally asking if any new merchants are on the way, but all I get is a vague reply with nothing more than a promise.

So as it stands today, we must wait… hopefully not too long, otherwise Plink will lose momentum. Continue reading

My Exciting Day: New Office Depot, 20,000 Point Plink Winner?, and Amazon Gift Cards in Stock

I’m sure your day was just as exciting as mine, but here is how it went…

There is a new Office Depot store that just opened near me so I went to check it out…

New Office Depot Irvine

And I see the gift card rack, all full of gift cards.  Those $200 Visa gift cards are hard to find at the other Office Depot stores in town.  I looked at both sides of the gift card rack and didn’t see any special wording about using cash for certain gift cards.  So I take a OneVanilla gift card to the check out counter and try to load $500 to it.  Unfortunately the register is not working properly, saying “Card Declined” – after just scanning the barcode on the back of the gift card.  Manager comes over and tries, but no luck.  I go back to the gift card rack and try to buy a $200 fixed value gift card, but the same error message shows up.  Ughh, it must be the system.  I will try back again later this week, but I’m sure they will have blocked the $500 cards from being purchased with a credit card by then.  Continue reading

Office Depot + Plink + Shopkick = 1 Big Happy Family

UPDATE 3/23/2014 at 11AM PST:  Shopkick lowered the amount that you will earn for shopping at Office Depot, so I had to recalculate my numbers.  Thank you Rajiv for the heads up.

Plink Points not enough?  Well, you are in luck then.  A new company called Shopkick will reward you with Shopkick “Kicks” aka points for certain purchases.  The great thing is you can double dip with Plink Points and Shopkick Kicks on all Office Depot purchases.  You can link up to 6 Visa and MasterCard credit cards to Shopkick (hopefully one is an Ink Bold/Plus card).  The payout structure is shown below.  You earn 1 Kick per dollar plus bonus Kicks if you spend more than $25, $50, or $75.

Office Depot Shopkick Payout

Let’s say you wanted to buy a $200 Visa gift card at Office Depot with your Chase Ink Bold card, your total would come to $206.95.  Here is what you would get back:

  • 207 x 5 = 1,035 Chase Ultimate Reward Points
  • 300 Plink Points = $3.00 in Amazon/Walmart gift cards
  • 206+ 375 = 581 Shopkick Kicks = $? (see below)

So what exactly is a Kick worth?   Continue reading
