Good morning everyone, I have a new round of AMEX Offers to share: Dollar General / Dollar General Market, Orchard Supply Hardware (OSH), Hof’s Hut, Gump’s, and The Pierre New York. The only offer that excites me is the Dollar General offer: spend $25 and get a $5 statement credit. This offer is only valid for in-store purchases, online orders are excluded.
When I searched for gift cards online, I am told that you can purchase many different gift cards in-store. I’m sure there are many other gift cards not pictured, maybe even Visa gift cards.
My closest store is 7.7 miles away in Concord, CA. Find your local Dollar General store by using the store locator. I will try to stop by tonight after work to do some gift card shopping.
Here are the other AMEX Offers that looked new to me. OSH had an AMEX Offer a few months ago, but they only sell OSH gift cards. I haven’t been to Hof’s Hut in years, but that was one of my favorite restaurants when I was growing up. As for Gump’s, and Pierre New York, I have never heard of either business.

Dollar General’s are hard coded not to accept credit cards for gift cards in my area; may be nationwide.

Hampton Roads area in Virginia (Norfolk/Chesapeake/Virginia Beach). At our local DG’s there are signs (cash only for gift cards).
I called my local DG and the rep said gift cards are cash only in the Bay Area. I guess I won’t be going to DG anytime soon then.
@Kathy, that really sucks. There’s no way I can maximize on this offer without having to buy GCs.
There are no enough data points to see if this is nationwide or if they will change the registers like they did for Smart & Final
wait what..??? they changed the registers for smart & final? I still got some amazon gc’s as of last thursday (or so)
At the beginning of the Smart & Final offer, credit cards were frowned up when trying to buy gift cards. After a few days, the stores started accepting credit cards without problem. Who knows what happened between the beginning and the next few days.
haha that’s interesting…both Smart & Finals I went to in the bay area the first day of the promo had no issues with splitting tender on GCs with multiple amex cards! but I remember chatting with you and one of the ones you went to wasn’t so nice about it.

Dollar General never excepted AMEX before. If you don’t use the deal for gift cards, they seem to always have $5 off $25 coupons valid on Saturdays. I’m assuming you can’t use that on gift cards. Even if they don’t let you buy gift cards with a credit card $10 off $25 isn’t a bad deal on some sale items.

Dollar General may let you buy a “Tracfone” or “Net 10” reload card using a credit card (and other brands). But personally I’ve never tried it. Could be useful to some people.

I tried at a dollar general today to buy a vanilla visa $500, but the clerk got the manager who said they only take cash for those. The 3rd party phone cards etc, were ok. Then I said I was going to pay with my amex and they said they didn’t take amex? I said that is strange this is an amex deal…
Hmm that is strange. Maybe the message hasn’t been received by all stores regarding the Amex Offer.
