Good morning everyone, happy Wednesday! I’ve got a few random news/deals items to share with you today. Miles to Memories is my hero for reporting that you can still view the “Classic AMEX Offers” by clicking this link (bookmark it too!). The old layout was much simpler than the new layout and I really hope American Express returns to the old layout.
There are also a few new AMEX Offers to share, including:
- Newegg: $25 off $200
- Airbnb: $50 off $100
- Enterprise Rent A Car: $20 off $200
- Ebags: $10 off $50
- Il Fornaio: $20 off $100
- Bill’s Khakis: $50 off $200
Newegg sells several travel egift cards for $200 or more (link). Don’t forget to go through an online shopping portal (like Ebates).
Speaking of Newegg, there is also a $15 Visa Checkout promotion going on for Chase Freedom credit card holders. Dan’s Deals has all the details. After you spend $15 or more with Visa Checkout, you will get a $15 statement credit on your Chase Freedom Credit Card. I decided to buy a $25 Groupon eGift Card and my mom & brother bought $25 Cheesecake Factory eGift Cards. There are several other egift cards are available.
My long-awaited $24.96 statement credit finally posted for using my US Bank FlexPerks Credit Card in-flight during an award ticket. I will have more details later, but it takes a few weeks to post. I called them on September 17 and the statement credit posted on November 2.
In sadder news, my AMEX Old Blue Cash anniversary was a few weeks ago and I didn’t realize that I hadn’t met the $6,500 minimum spend threshold to unlock the 5% cash back categories. For my October statement, I only earned $23.18 cash back, instead of $113.96 ($2.75 + $5.45 + $104.44 + $1.32). I will work on completing the spend threshold this month.
If you have any questions, please leave a comment below. Have a great day everyone!
How does the US Bank travel credit work? What can one use it on? Thanks!
You can use it for in-flight purchases like WiFi and food/drink. I’ll explain more in the post.
Must the purchase be on the purchased flight? I tend to buy tickets to family members with my flexpoints
Technically yes, but as long as you buy something airline-related between the departure and arrival flights, you have a good shot at getting the purchase reimbursed up to $25.
How do they track when and how travel was booked?
You redeem your FlexPoints for travel through the US Bank website so they know the days of travel.
You can use the travel credit on bag fees to, but you have to call in and request reimbursement. Max of $25.
Yes exactly.
I would think about trying to use it for mileage booster options if you have no need for in-flight drinks or baggage. I believe it’s worked in the past.
I think buying airline gift cards has counted too. As long as the charge is reasonable, you should be fine.
I landed JC Penney – spend $50 get $10 back….on four of my AMEX cards. So to me, that = $40. Grant do you know if JCP sells VGC in store? I know they don’t online but I’m not sure about what they offer in store for VGC or any gift cards for that matter.
I think JCPenney only sells JCPenney gift cards, no third party gift cards.
