Good morning everyone. I just received an email from IHG this morning about a promotion for Chase IHG Rewards Cardholders (this may be targeted, YMMV). You can get a 20% discount on award stays of 1-3 nights when you book your reservation by February 8 and complete your stay by March 13. I have the old $49 Chase IHG Rewards Select Credit Card, the $89 Chase IHG Rewards Premier Credit Card, and I am also an IHG Spire Elite member. Here is the landing page for the offer, but I think the 20% discount will only show up if your account was targeted, there is no enrollment link. I decided to do a dummy 3 night stay and a dummy 4 night stay to see what the discount looks like and how it works.
I searched for hotels in Los Angeles and picked a random 3 night stay (February 7-10) and then sorted the results by price. As you can see, all the hotels that had award space are showing 20% discounts on the normal points price.
I selected the top result for the Holiday Inn West Covina and see that the nightly rate dropped from 18,000 points to 14,400 points (a 20% discount).
The discount applied to both the all points price and the points and cash price.
The checkout page shows the final price, but doesn’t mention the 20% discount.
I repeated the process and picked a random 4 night stay (February 7-11) and then sorted the results by price. Since the Chase IHG Rewards Premier offers the Fourth Night Free benefit, most of the results show a 25% discount on the normal points price.
I selected the top result for the Holiday Inn West Covina and see that the nightly rate dropped from 18,000 points to 13,500 points (a 25% discount).
The 25% discount only applied to the all points price, not the points and cash price.
The checkout page shows the final price and shows the Fourth Night Free benefit, which results in a 25% discount.
I don’t have any hotel stays planned between now and March 13, otherwise this would be a great deal. If you have any questions, please leave a comment below. Have a great day everyone!
