Good afternoon everyone, I hope your week is going well. In this post, I will show you how we moved Alaska Airlines Miles into Hawaiian Airlines Miles, transferred those miles between Hawaiian Airlines accounts, and then transferred those miles to Alaska Airlines. We wanted all of our miles to be in a single account (my Alaska Airlines account) to make award booking easier since we would book all of our award tickets from a single account. Transfers between Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines were free and instant. Here are the steps we did…
A few weeks ago, Laura and I transferred large chunks of American Express Membership Rewards Points into Hawaiian Airlines Miles when AMEX had a 20% transfer bonus to Hawaiian Airlines. I transferred 417K AMEX MR Points into 500K Hawaiian Airlines Miles on August 29.
I instantly received the 500K Hawaiian Airlines Miles in my account.
Laura transferred 118K AMEX MR Points into 141K Hawaiian Airlines Miles on August 29. Once her 1,664 pending AMEX MR Points post to her AMEX account, she will do another 4K transfer to Hawaiian Airlines and then wait for the 70K Hawaiian Airlines Miles sign up bonus to post from her Barclays Hawaiian Airlines Credit Card.
Laura instantly received the 141K Hawaiian Airlines Miles in her account.
About a month later, on August 26, Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines introduced the ability to move Alaska Airlines Miles to / from Hawaiian Airlines Miles. Laura moved 5K Alaska Airlines Miles to her Hawaiian Airlines account. To do this transfer, she clicked on the Learn More link at the top of the page.
She then scrolled down to the Seamless Miles Transfer section and clicked the Transfer Now link.
She then went through the process to transfer her 5K Alaska Airlines Miles into 5K Hawaiian Airlines Miles.
Laura instantly received the 5K Hawaiian Airlines Miles in her account.
She then went to the Hawaiian Airlines Share Miles page and filled in the necessary information to transfer all 146,600 Hawaiian Airlines Miles from her account to my account. There was no fee to transfer her Hawaiian Airlines Miles to me because she has a Barclays Hawaiian Airlines Credit Card. If neither person has the credit card, there might be a $25 service fee, but the terms are confusingly written.
Laura’s 146,600 Hawaiian Airlines Miles were instantly transferred to my account and she now had a balance of 0 miles.
I instantly received the 146,600 miles and my new balance was 647,000 miles.
I then went to the Hawaiian Airlines Redeem Miles page, scrolled down to the Transfer Miles to Alaska’s Mileage Plan section, and clicked the Learn More button.
I went through the process to transfer all 647K Hawaiian Airlines Miles into my Alaska Airlines account. There is a 500K limit per transfer, so I did 2 transfers: 500K and 147K. Both transfer were free and instant.
My Hawaiian Airlines account now had a balance of 0 miles.
I signed into my Alaska Airlines account and instantly saw the 2 transfers: 500K and 147K. My new Alaska Airlines balance is 789K miles. Time to book some award flights!
The entire transfer process took 5-10 minutes and I am glad everything went smoothly. After Laura transfers 4K AMEX MR Points to Hawaiian Airlines and receives the 70K Hawaiian Airlines miles from her credit card, we will do a similar process to move those 74K Hawaiian Airlines Miles from her account to my account, and then I will move those miles to my Alaska Airlines account. If you have any questions about transferring miles between Hawaiian Airlines and Alaska Airlines or regarding transferring Hawaiian Airlines Miles between members, please leave a comment below. Have a great day everyone!
Awesome post. Truly.
Thank you Mike, glad you enjoyed the post :)
Is it still possible to transfer MR points to Hawaiian? My page does not show that option.
I just transferred 1,000 AMEX MR points to Hawaiian Airlines a minute ago and the transaction went through smoothly. Did you transfer points to Hawaiian Airlines in the past?
No. for me, the option is there but I have few MR points to transfer. For P2 (freshly denied for Barclays/Hawaiian/70K offer), Hawaiian doesn’t show up. Does she have to register a number with them? I can see Emirates Skywards in my list but I don’t have an Emirates Skywards number.
Hmm, you have to link / register the Hawaiian Airlines account number on the AMEX MR transfer page. Can you try on the app, desktop, and mobile web browser?
She does not yet have a Hawaiian number. We were hoping that the Barclays application would create one but she got denied.
So, I think the next steps would be to get her a Hawaiian number and add it to Amex, if that option is there. She has MR points from other cards. We want to do exactly what you did in this post: combine everything into one large account. We both already have a bunch of Alaska miles. I have 70K coming soon from Barclay’s (got approved a few days ago). Thanks for your help and posts here!
Ya, I would create a Hawaiian Airlines number for your wife and then contact AMEX through chat or over the phone and have them add / link / register her Hawaiian Airlines number to her AMEX account. Once that is done, you should be able transfer her AMEX MR Points to her Hawaiian Airlines account, then follow the rest of the steps in this post.
Sorry – above I was referring to P2 (not ‘my page).
