American Express May Temporarily Suspend Credit Card Earning & Redeeming Ability (Effective November 1)

Update: For more discussion about this change, check out this Doctor of Credit post and this Reddit thread.

Good morning everyone.  I was reviewing my American Express credit card statements last night and I noticed an update to the program terms printed on my American Express Everyday Credit Card statement.  Effective November 1, American Express has the ability to temporarily suspend your ability to earn and redeem American Express Membership Reward Points if they suspect that you are abusing, misusing, or gaming their rewards program.   Further down on the program terms update, American Express also lists possible actions they may take to your credit cards:

  • Take away any points in your program account
  • Temporarily suspend your ability to redeem points
  • Temporarily suspend your ability to earn points
  • Cancel your program account
  • Cancel any of your American Express Cards

I am not sure if this is much different than getting an American Express Financial Review, but it sounds serious.  Who knows how American Express will enforce these new program terms, but here is the complete program terms update for you to read:

I Love My New Shiny Metal American Express Business Platinum Charge Card

Good morning everyone, happy Friday!  Last week, Doctor of Credit wrote a post stating that you could now request a metal card for your American Express Business Platinum Charge Card.  I jumped at the opportunity to request the new card (I love metal cards like my JPMorgan Chase Ritz Carlton and Chase Sapphire Reserve).  Ordering a metal card was quick and easy online, so I will show you the process.  I also have images of the old plastic card vs the new metal card at the bottom of this post.  You can request metal cards for both the Business Platinum cards and Personal Platinum cards.  With that said, sign into your American Express Business Platinum Charge Card online account and click the Account Services tab (btw, it looks pretty ugly that American Express cannot fit the entire name of the tab in the tab).

Free American Express Card Benefit: Free 2-Day Shipping with ShopRunner

Did you realized that at the end of 2016, American Express started offering a free ShopRunner membership to all their cardholders? This offer doesn’t expire, as long as you have an active American Express account. So it’s basically a lifetime ShopRunner account. Did you sign up? I realized today I had forgotten to sign up for this benefit!

ShopRunner provides the following benefits:

  • Complimentary 2-Day Shipping
  • No Minimum Order Size
  • Free Shipping on Returns
  • ShopRunner Member Deals
  • Shop Thousands of Brands

So if you never signed up, do that now. I’m now a ShopRunner member and it’ll be great for ordering items online and having them delivered fast.

View Card Bonus Detail Popup for American Express Blue Business Plus Credit Card in Membership Reward Account

Good afternoon everyone.  I have a short post to share about a new feature I discovered this afternoon when I was browsing the Activity Detail tab of my American Express Membership Reward Points account.  When you look at the Activity Detail tab, you see a few ‘+’ icons next to your Membership Reward Point earning credit cards.  That part isn’t new, but when you click the ‘+’ icon next to the American Express Blue Business Plus Credit Card, you can see all your point earning transaction.

Why Do I Keep the American Express SPG Business Credit Card?

There are a few credit cards I always carry just for the benefits. Because I have a business, I put plenty of spend on my American Express SPG Business Credit Card. I like earning those SPG points! But when I travel, I take it with me for a different reason. I’ve had my American Express SPG Business Credit Card for many years, and it was always a keeper for me. Back in 2015 when American Express added new benefits to their personal and business SPG credit cards, I was glad to see complimentary Sheraton Club access added as one of those benefits.

I’ve always been an SPG Gold elite member, but I’ve never had SPG Platinum elite status. Sometimes as an SPG Gold elite member, I’d be given a complimentary upgraded room and Sheraton Club access, but it certainly wasn’t guaranteed. This did, however, give me an introduction to Sheraton Clubs, and since I knew I’d always keep the American Express SPG Business Credit Card, I looked forward to experiencing the Sheraton Clubs whenever I stayed at a Sheraton. I also liked that Sheraton Club access was available no matter how I paid for my stays, regardless if my stay was paid for with points, cash and points, or all cash.
