How to Use 2 American Express Business Platinum Cards to Split CLEAR Plus + 1 Family Member into 2 Charges

Good afternoon everyone, I hope your week is going well.  A few weeks ago, I got my CLEAR renewal email that said my membership would be increasing $50, from $169 to $219.  That was a bummer since I was looking forward to using the $189 CLEAR Plus credit that comes with my American Express Business Platinum Card.  Since I currently have 2 AMEX Biz Plat Cards, I wanted to use both cards to get the CLEAR Plus credit.

I have an AMEX Delta credit card which provided a discounted CLEAR membership of $149 for myself and I have my wife as a family member on my CLEAR membership for an additional $70.  Technically, I might have been able to remove my wife from my CLEAR account and set her up with her own account which would have cost her $179, since she is a general Delta SkyMiles member, but I wanted to see if I could keep costs low.

Here is what I did next…

$179 CLEAR Credit Posts Quickly on American Express Business Platinum Card

Good morning everyone.  A few months ago, I wrote American Express Business Platinum Card Changes: $179 CLEAR Credit & Centurion Lounge Guest Access Policy when AMEX introduced the $179 CLEAR Credit on their personal and business Platinum Cards.  Last month, I wrote My CLEAR Experience: Reactivating Membership, Adding Family Member, & Airport Biometric Process where I explained the issues regarding reactivating my old/dormant CLEAR membership and my wife’s experience with the airport biometric process (it was pretty easy at the Seattle airport).  CLEAR gave me a 2 month trial period in order to get our CLEAR accounts set up and my charge finally went through last week.  I wanted to document the process and show how quickly the CLEAR credit posted on my American Express Business Platinum Card.  The $179 CLEAR Credit shows up in the benefits section of your personal or business Platinum Card and does not require activation.  The benefit says that the statement credit will appear 2-4 weeks after your CLEAR membership is charged to your card.

My CLEAR Experience: Reactivating Membership, Adding Family Member, & Airport Biometric Process

Good afternoon everyone, I hope your week is going well.  A month ago, American Express added a $179 CLEAR credit to AMEX Platinum Cards.  I had an old / dormant CLEAR account that I signed up for and used a few years ago, so I figured I would reactive my CLEAR membership.  Frequent Miler has a great resource on 5 ways to get CLEAR for less and one of the ways is to be an AMEX Delta credit card holder and add a family member for less than the cost of a single membership.  In this post, I will cover my experience reactivating my CLEAR membership, adding Laura as a family member to my CLEAR account, and her experience with the airport biometric process (getting her fingerprints and eyes scanned).

I’m Back from Hawaii and a Preview of Upcoming Blog Posts

Good morning everyone, I hope your week is going well.  I just returned home from a relaxing trip to Hawaii with Laura for our 2 year wedding anniversary.  We spent 4 nights on the Big Island in Kona at the Waikoloa Beach Marriott Resort & Spa using 4 50K Free Night Certificates and then 6 nights on Kauai; 4 nights in Princeville and 2 nights in Poipu at 2 different Vacasa vacation rentals that cost 13,500 Wyndham Rewards Points per night (thanks to the 10% discount for Barclays Wyndham Rewards Earner Business Credit Card holders).

American Express Business Platinum Card Changes: $179 CLEAR Credit & Centurion Lounge Guest Access Policy

Good morning everyone, I hope your Fourth of July weekend is going well.  I know there has been a lot of news this week about the American Express Platinum Cards, but I still wanted to share the details of the changes that were posted to my American Express Business Platinum Card.  I don’t have any other varieties or flavors of Platinum Cards, so I am not sure if these changes apply to all Platinum Cards or only to the Business Platinum Card.  To start, American Express is revising / clarifying the language regarding additional card members and how refunds are handled if you cancel an authorized user / employee card.  These changes mention the Cardmember Agreement which can be found here, then click on Small Business Cards, and then click on the Business Platinum Card.
