Update 8pm PT on 5/24: My 1500 SPG points posted to my KLM / Air France account within 48 hours of making the transfer (Tuesday afternoon). SPG may do a bulk transfer at the same time for everyone, so your transfer times may vary.
Good morning everyone, I hope you all had a great weekend. I was in Portland over the weekend and had my fair share of food carts, Voodoo Donuts, rain drizzles, and weird people. But enough about me… it’s all about KLM / Air France today. Yesterday, Frequent Miler reported that KLM / Air France was added as a Chase Ultimate Rewards transfer partner. This is great news because you can now get KLM / Air France Flying Blue miles from all 4 major points currencies: Chase Ultimate Rewards Points, Citi Thank You Points, American Express Membership Reward Points, and SPG Points. In this post, I will show you how long transfers from each points currency takes to post to your KLM / Air France account. This post is a sequel to Transfer Times to Singapore Airlines from Chase Ultimate Rewards, AMEX Membership Rewards, Citi Thank You Points, and SPG Starpoints. I have always wanted to book a KLM / Air France promo award, so hopefully that dream comes true.
While I was in line for Voodoo Donuts, I was able to use the Award Wallet iPhone app to log into all 4 points currencies and transfer points to my KLM / Air France account. Since I didn’t know how fast each transfer would post, I made sure to transfer different amounts of points from each points currency. Based on the number of points I had available in each points currency, I transferred the following points to my KLM / Air France account:
- AMEX Membership Rewards Points – 1,000 (transfers are in 1,000 point increments)
- SPG Points – 1,500 (transfers of 1,500 or more for SPG Gold Elite members)
- Citi Thank You Points – 2,000 (transfers are in 1,000 point increments)
- Chase Ultimate Reward Points – 3,000 (transfers are in 1,000 point increments)
There are 2 things that really annoy me about American Express Membership Reward Points transfers. First, you have to link your loyalty programs to your American Express Membership Reward Points account and that process is not always instant. Second, you need to have one of your American Express Membership Reward Points earning cards with you to verify your identity and proceed with the transfer process. Luckily, the transfer from American Express Membership Rewards Points to my KLM / Air France account posted instantly.
Unfortunately, my SPG Points transfer has still not posted and it’s been 8 hours now. I will update this post when the transfer from my SPG account posts to my KLM / Air France account.
Thankfully, my Citi Thank You Points transfer to my KLM / Air France account posted instantly.
Lastly, my Chase Ultimate Rewards Points transfer to my KLM / Air France account posted instantly.
As you can tell, each points transfer posts as a separate transaction so you can see exactly which program the miles came from. I will update this post as soon as the SPG transfer posts to my KLM / Air France account.
Update: My 1500 SPG points posted to my KLM / Air France account within 48 hours of making the transfer (Tuesday afternoon). SPG may do a bulk transfer at the same time for everyone, so your transfer times may vary.

P.S. here is a fun fact. KLM stands for Koninklijke Luchtvaart Maatschappij :)
We’d sure like to read the English translation of KLM. ;)
Even though I am a tiny bit Dutch, I have no clue how to pronounce the full KLM name :/
Literally translated to English KLM means: “Royal Aviation Company”! :)
I like it! Thanks Luke.
Nice work, Grant. Very helpful info on the transfer times.
Glad you like it, hopefully it comes in handy :)
