Good morning everyone, happy Sunday.  Last June, I applied for the Citi AT&T Access More Credit Card and have been waiting all year for the annual fee to post.  Why?  When you spend $10,000 or more on the Citi AT&T Access More Credit Card during your cardmember year, you will receive 10,000 bonus Citi Thank You Points when you anniversary comes around.  In this post, I will shows you when the 10,000 bonus Citi Thank You Points post and when the $95 annual fee posts (hint: the bonus points post before the annual fee).  Here are a few pages from the Citi AT&T Access More Credit Card directory of services:

PayPal Extras MasterCard Change: Earn Unlimited Points (Eliminating 50,000 Point Yearly Cap)

Good afternoon everyone, happy Saturday.  I’m having a lazy weekend in SF and working on a few blog posts.  Earlier this morning, I received an email from PayPal / Synchrony Bank with the subject line, “Exciting changes to your PayPal Extras MasterCard”.  Uh oh, my definition of “exciting” usually differs greatly from the credit card company’s definition.  I cautiously opened the email to find out what is changing to my credit card…

Visa Supplier Locator Can Find Hidden “5x Cash Back Restaurants”

Good morning everyone, happy Thursday and happy Q3!  Since the Chase Freedom Credit Card and Discover It Credit Card both offer 5% cash back (or 5x Chase Ultimate Reward Points) for restaurants this quarter (July 1 – September 30), I thought it would be fun to see if there were any merchants that coded as restaurants, but might have an MS angle too.  I first wrote about the Visa Supplier Locator website in December 2013 (How are Merchants Classified? Use the Visa Supplier Locator to Find Out!).  Luckily, not much has changed on the website during the last 3.5 years, so that post is still relevant.

Let me step back a minute and explain what the Visa Supplier Locator is and does.  Every merchant has 1 or more MCC (merchant categorization codes) that tells the credit card company what type of merchant they are (grocery store, restaurant, charity, hotel, etc.).  Without the MCC, it would be impossible to categorize transactions and award bonus points based on certain categories.  The Visa Supplier Locator allows you to search for merchants that use a certain MCC or determine what MCC a merchant uses.

In my 5% cash back restaurant example, I wanted to see which merchants have restaurant MCCs.  Some of the merchants might surprise you.  On the Visa Supplier Locator website, I selected  “RESTAURANTS / BARS – 5812” and “RESTAURANTS / BARS – 5814” from the MCC dropdown menu.  Then I entered my zip code, proved I wasn’t a robot, and clicked the Search button.  I ran multiple searches with different zip codes because each results page only showed 50 merchants.

Missing Out on Targeted Pre-Approved Credit Card Offers? Make Sure to Opt-In!

(Hat Tip to Donnie)

Good afternoon everyone, happy Sunday.  I hope you are enjoying your long Fourth of July weekend, wherever you may be.  I wanted to give a quick thank you to the readers who attended my OC travel hackers meetup yesterday afternoon – it was great talking to you all and I look forward to organizing another OC meetup in mid September.

For most people, pre-approved credit card offers are useless junk mail that fills up their mailbox.  But to travel hackers like myself, I love getting pre-approved credit card offers.  Usually, those offers are much better than the publicly available credit card offers.  If you want to ensure you are receiving your fair share of pre-approved credit card offers, make sure you opt-in on OptOutPrescreen.com, which is the only internet website authorized by Equifax, Experian, Innovis and TransUnion for consumers to opt-out or opt-in to receiving pre-approved credit card offers. To get started, click on the above link and click the button on the bottom of the page.
