New Writer Q&A with Will (The Tactical Traveler)

Good morning everyone, here is the third Q&A post from my new writers.  If you missed the first two, I highly recommending reading Tonei’s Q&A and Whitney’s Q&A.  I hope you are all enjoying the extra content this month, I have been very pleased with all the great blog posts and ensuing comments.  Hopefully there will be plenty more to come in the new year as well.  My next Q&A is with my friend Will…

Hello Travel with Grantians…my name is Will and I have agreed to become one of Grant’s new blog contributors! I am going to write under the pen name, The Tactical Traveler.

I met Grant through reading his blog and conversing via email, and eventually met him in person at an FTU (Frequent Traveler University – a travel conference) in Dallas. Grant and I have since become good friends, have traveled together, and met up at multiple travel conferences (Grant even spent the weekend at my house).

Should I Convert my Chase Freedom to a Chase Sapphire Reserve Credit Card?

Good morning everyone, I hope your week is going well.  I am struggling to make a decision regarding the Chase Sapphire Reserve Credit Card.  I really want the credit card and sign up bonus, but due to the Chase 5/24 rule, I am not getting any new Chase credit cards anytime soon.  I also have a few Chase business cards that I don’t use much.  Should I convert my Chase Freedom Credit Card to a Chase Sapphire Reserve Credit Card?  Here are the facts in my situation:

  • I am way over the Chase 5/24 rule, so I am not getting a new Chase credit card anytime soon
  • I am not a Chase Private Client and have not been pre-approved for the Chase Sapphire Reserve or Chase Ink Preferred
  • I currently have a Chase Freedom, Chase Ink Cash, and Chase Ink Plus
  • I do not have a Chase Sapphire Preferred or Chase Freedom Unlimited
  • I do not max out my Chase Ink Cash or Chase Ink Plus 5x categories
  • I do not max out my Chase Freedom 5% rotating cash back categories
  • My Chase Ink Plus annual fee is due in March 2017
  • You can only convert a Chase Freedom, Chase Freedom Unlimited, Chase Sapphire, or Chase Sapphire Preferred to a Chase Sapphire Reserve.
  • You need to have a credit line of at least $10,000 to be approved for the conversion (my Chase Freedom has a $25,000 credit line).

Transfer Times to KLM / Air France from Chase Ultimate Rewards, AMEX Membership Rewards, Citi Thank You Points & SPG Starpoints

Update 8pm PT on 5/24: My 1500 SPG points posted to my KLM / Air France account within 48 hours of making the transfer (Tuesday afternoon).  SPG may do a bulk transfer at the same time for everyone, so your transfer times may vary.

Good morning everyone, I hope you all had a great weekend.  I was in Portland over the weekend and had my fair share of food carts, Voodoo Donuts, rain drizzles, and weird people.  But enough about me… it’s all about KLM / Air France today.  Yesterday, Frequent Miler reported that KLM / Air France was added as a Chase Ultimate Rewards transfer partner.  This is great news because you can now get KLM / Air France Flying Blue miles from all 4 major points currencies: Chase Ultimate Rewards Points, Citi Thank You Points, American Express Membership Reward Points, and SPG Points.  In this post, I will show you how long transfers from each points currency takes to post to your KLM / Air France account.  This post is a sequel to Transfer Times to Singapore Airlines from Chase Ultimate Rewards, AMEX Membership Rewards, Citi Thank You Points, and SPG Starpoints.  I have always wanted to book a KLM / Air France promo award, so hopefully that dream comes true.
