Which 10 Credit Cards am I Considering for my March App-O-Rama?

Good morning everyone, happy Thursday.  My last App-O-Rama (where I applied for several new credit cards at the same time) was back in mid December 2016.  I usually wait 3+ months between App-O-Ramas, so the time has come to start my next round of credit card applications.  I am going to list the credit cards I have in mind in the order in which I will probably apply for them.  If you have any feedback on my strategy or think I am missing or applying for the wrong credit cards, please leave a comment below. Without further ado, let’s begin…

1. American Express SPG Business Credit Card – 25,000 SPG points after spending $5,000 in 90 days and an additional 10,000 SPG points after spending $3,000 in 120 days.  No annual fee the first year, then $95 in the second year.

With the impending merger with Marriott, this might be my last opportunity to apply for the SPG business credit card.  I can’t pass up this opportunity. 35,000 SPG points are worth ~$700 in hotel nights and airfare (and possibly much more).

2. Bank of America MERRILL+ Credit Card – 50,000 points after spending $3,000 in 90 days.  No annual fee.

Doctor of Credit reports that you can apply for this credit card over the phone.  50,000 points is worth $500 cash or up to $1,000 toward airfare. Continue reading

Barclaycard JetBlue Plus MasterCard 30,000 TrueBlue Points Sign Up Bonus Posted Slowly

Good morning everyone, happy Sunday!  This is a short post detailing how long the Barclaycard JetBlue Plus MasterCard 30,000 TrueBlue Points took to post to my JetBlue account.  I was instantly approved for the credit card on December 6 and received the credit card about a week later (card art and features).  My first statement closed on December 26.  The $99 annual fee posted on December 30.  I met the $1,000 minimum spend requirements on January 9.  My second statement closed on January 26 but the sign up bonus points were not on that statement.  The 30,000 JetBlue TrueBlue points finally posted on February 25 (2.5 months after getting the credit card and 1.5 months after completing the minimum spend requirement).

Barclays JetBlue Plus Credit Card Reimburses 10% of TrueBlue Points for Existing Reservations & Upgrades

Good afternoon everyone, I hope your Monday Tuesday is going well.  I am writing this post about JetBlue while in-flight on Virgin America from JFK to SFO.  I just received an email from Award Wallet letting me know that my JetBlue TrueBlue points balance increased.  Whenever I see a large change in miles/points/cash back, I like to investigate to see what happened.  Here are the facts in this instance:

  • I booked a JetBlue flight from Long Beach (LGB) to New York City (JFK) on November 7 using 23,100 JetBlue TrueBlue points (flight departed on December 27).
  • While booking the flight, I paid 1,000 JetBlue TrueBlue points for the Even More Space upgrade (extra legroom seats near the front of the plane) – I believe you need to be JetBlue Mosaic to get this points option, since normally seat upgrades cost up to $99.
  • I was approved for the Barclays JetBlue Plus Credit Card on December 6 and received the credit card in the mail on December 12.
  • I took the JetBlue flight from LGB to JFK on December 27 and the rebated points posted on December 28.

Is the Barclays JetBlue Plus Credit Card a Keeper? (Card Art & Features)

Good morning everyone.  I just wanted to give a quick shout out to everyone who attended the SF Travel Hackers Meetup event last night – congratulations to the winning trivia team, congrats if you won a cool raffle prize (or two), and thank you to everyone who bought raffle tickets.  We raised roughly $250 and will use that money to pay meetup.com membership fees and help secure future meetup locations.  Here’s to a great 2017 of travel hacker meetups!

Back to our regularly scheduled post…

During my recent App-O-Rama, I was instantly approved for the Barclays JetBlue Plus Credit Card.  The credit card offers 30,000 JetBlue TrueBlue Points after spending $1,000 in 3 months with a $99 annual fee (not waived).  There is also a Barclays JetBlue Credit Card (no annual fee) and a Barclays JetBlue Business Credit Card available ($99 annual fee, not waived).  I will discuss the features of the Barclays JetBlue Plus Credit Card below and why I think it is a great card to get and keep for a long time.

JetBlue TrueBlue Points Post Almost Instantly for Lyft Airport Rides

Good afternoon everyone.  I am channeling my inner Lucky and Ben to post twice in the same day.  I’m exhausted, I don’t think I can keep up with them for much longer.  Anyway, last week, Lyft and JetBlue announced a partnership where you could take Lyft to/from the airport and earn 30 JetBlue TrueBlue points per trip.  Before I go any further, I am required by the blogger code of conduct to insert my Lyft referral link (get $50 in Lyft ride credit).

During my recent weekend trip to Washington, D.C., I flew to IAD and took a Lyft Line to the Marriott Marquis Hotel.  Since the ride was super early, I got the whole Lyft Line to myself.  I got dropped off at the hotel at 6:29am and received an Award Wallet alert that I received 30 JetBlue TrueBlue points at 7:15am (which was 14 minutes faster than the Lyft app).  30 JetBlue TrueBlue points is worth ~60 cents, so the points don’t even offset my tip.
