US Bank Cash Plus Q2 Categories: Home Utilities Replaces Bookstores

Good morning everyone, happy Super Bowl Sunday – I hope you have exciting Super Bowl plans today.  I just wanted to give a quick thank you to everyone who showed up for my OC Travel Hackers Meetup yesterday, it was great seeing so many familiar faces and catching up on all things travel hacking.  Yesterday, my US Bank Cash Plus Credit Card statement closed and I noticed a small change on the statement regarding Q2 5% cash back categories.  Effective April 1, 2018, home utilities will replace bookstores.  Home utilities includes electricity, gas, and waste management companies.  I assume water and other home utilities are included, but I am not 100% sure.

I Closed my AMEX Hilton Ascend Credit Card & Received a $95 Statement Credit (Refunded Annual Fee)

Good morning everyone, happy Friday.  When I was doing research for my previous Hilton post (Hilton Ascend Credit Card: Unlink Citi Card; Set up AMEX Card; View AMEX Offers; Call for Retention Offers), I closed one of my American Express Hilton Ascend Credit Cards.  A few days later, I logged back into American Express and saw a $95 statement credit on my account.  That was surprising since I hadn’t used the credit card in several months before it was converted from Citi to American Express.  I did some digging and found out that the $95 was a refund of my annual fee.

My Incredible 14 Seat Cessna Flight from San Jose (SJO) to Liberia, Costa Rica (LIR)

Good morning everyone.  Yesterday, I wrote this post: PSA: Get Yellow Fever Vaccine Before Visiting Nicaragua (& Some Other Central / South American Countries).  At the end of that post, I mentioned that I had an amazing flight from San Jose, Costa Rica (SJO) to Liberia, Costa Rica (LIR) on 14 seat Cessna aircraft.  Here is my flight experience with lots of photos and a short video of my takeoff and landing.  I purchased the flight the night before (at the Managua, Nicaragua (MGA) airport) and the flight time was 50 minutes, with ~35 minutes of that in-flight.

PSA: Get Yellow Fever Vaccine Before Visiting Nicaragua (& Some Other Central / South American Countries)

If you have any plans to visit the rainforest or any other tropical region of Central / South America, I highly recommend getting your Yellow Fever Vaccine (YFV).  The vaccine is good for your health and you can avoid the uncomfortable situation I recently had where I had to sleep in the Managua, Nicaragua (MGA) airport because I did not have a Yellow Fever Vaccine.

Let me back up a little bit…

2 weeks ago, Jim and I flew from San Salvador, El Salvador (SAL) to Managua, Nicaragua (MGA).  When we got off the plane, there were 3 doctors who were meeting with passengers and reviewing their passport and custom form.  The line was moving pretty quickly until I handed over my passport and custom form to one of the doctors.  She flipped through my passport a few times, carefully looking at passport stamps, then back to my custom form, and then back to my passport.  I had no idea what she was looking for, I assumed she was looking for my El Salvador exit stamp, but that was not the case.
