American Express May Temporarily Suspend Credit Card Earning & Redeeming Ability (Effective November 1)

Update: For more discussion about this change, check out this Doctor of Credit post and this Reddit thread.

Good morning everyone.  I was reviewing my American Express credit card statements last night and I noticed an update to the program terms printed on my American Express Everyday Credit Card statement.  Effective November 1, American Express has the ability to temporarily suspend your ability to earn and redeem American Express Membership Reward Points if they suspect that you are abusing, misusing, or gaming their rewards program.   Further down on the program terms update, American Express also lists possible actions they may take to your credit cards:

  • Take away any points in your program account
  • Temporarily suspend your ability to redeem points
  • Temporarily suspend your ability to earn points
  • Cancel your program account
  • Cancel any of your American Express Cards

I am not sure if this is much different than getting an American Express Financial Review, but it sounds serious.  Who knows how American Express will enforce these new program terms, but here is the complete program terms update for you to read:

Redeem Chase Ultimate Rewards Points for 1.5 Cents Per Point with Chase Sapphire Reserve Credit Card

Good morning everyone, I hope you all had a great weekend.  I am very late to the Chase Sapphire Reserve Credit Card party, but I finally have that credit card after I Converted my Chase Freedom to a Chase Sapphire Reserve.  I’ve been sitting on a bunch of Chase Ultimate Rewards Points and finally had my first opportunity to book a trip using my Chase Ultimate Rewards Points.  To redeem your Chase Ultimate Rewards Points for 1.5 cents per point (CPP), log into your Chase online account and click the Go to Ultimate Rewards box.

3 Ways to Track Citi Hilton Honors Reserve Credit Card Spending Toward Free Weekend Night Certificate & Diamond Elite Status

Good morning everyone, I hope your weekend is going well.  During my OC Travel Meetup last weekend, I learned that there are several ways to track your spending on the Citi Hilton Honors Reserve Credit Card.  I was only aware of the old school way (exporting data and opening Excel to add up the charges), so I am happy to share the much simpler and faster ways to track your spending.  There are 2 main reasons for tracking your spending on this credit card – you get a free weekend night certificate when you spend $10,000 during your cardmember year; you will earn Hilton Diamond Elite Status when you spend $40,000 during your cardmember year.  Unfortunately, American Express will be the sole issuer of Hilton credit cards starting on January 1, 2018, so it is still unknown what will happen to Citi Hilton credit cards.  If your annual fee is billed before January 1, 2018, you should still get the perks of spending on your Citi Hilton Honors Reserve Credit Card.

With all the said, let’s get started with the first and probably the easiest way to track your Citi Hilton Honors Reserve Credit Card spending.  Sign into your Citi online account and click on your Citi Hilton Honors Reserve Credit Card account.

App-O-Rama Update: Did I Get Approved for the Barclays Wyndham Rewards Credit Card?

Good morning everyone, I hope your weekend is off to a great start.  A few days ago, I wrote My 8 Credit Card App-O-Rama Results (Mostly Bad News).  In that post, I shared the details (and denials) for most of the credit cards below.  At the end of that post, I said I would share my experience applying for the Barclays Wyndham Rewards Credit Card.

  • Bank of America Alaska Airlines Visa Signature Credit Card: 30,000 AS Miles + $100 statement credit after spending $1,000 in 3 months ($75 annual fee)
  • Bank of America Virgin Atlantic Credit Card: 75,000 VA Miles after spending $12,000 in 6 months ($90 annual fee)
  • Bank of America Amtrak Rewards Credit Card: 30,000 Amtrak Points after spending $1,000 in 3 months ($79 annual fee)
  • US Bank Altitude Reserve Credit Card: 50,000 FlexPoints ($750 in travel credit) after spending $4,500 in 3 months ($400 annual fee)
  • Wells Fargo Visa Signature Credit Card: 20,000 Go Far Reward Points after spending $1,000 in 3 months ($0 annual fee)
  • First Bankcard Best Western Credit Card: 50,000 Points after spending $1,000 in 3 months ($59 annual fee, first year waived)
  • Synchrony Bank Cathay Pacific Credit Card: 50,000 CX Miles after spending $2,500 in 3 months ($95 annual fee)
  • Barclays Wyndham Rewards Credit Card: 45,000 Wyndham Points (3 free nights) after spending $2,000 in 3 months ($75 annual fee)

Even though this credit card was listed at the end of my App-O-Rama post, it was actually the first credit card I applied for during this App-O-Rama.  Unfortunately, my application went to pending and then to denied a few days later.  This credit card was going to be harder to get than I thought.  I decided to wait for the denial letter and put my reconsideration skills to the test.

I Love My New Shiny Metal American Express Business Platinum Charge Card

Good morning everyone, happy Friday!  Last week, Doctor of Credit wrote a post stating that you could now request a metal card for your American Express Business Platinum Charge Card.  I jumped at the opportunity to request the new card (I love metal cards like my JPMorgan Chase Ritz Carlton and Chase Sapphire Reserve).  Ordering a metal card was quick and easy online, so I will show you the process.  I also have images of the old plastic card vs the new metal card at the bottom of this post.  You can request metal cards for both the Business Platinum cards and Personal Platinum cards.  With that said, sign into your American Express Business Platinum Charge Card online account and click the Account Services tab (btw, it looks pretty ugly that American Express cannot fit the entire name of the tab in the tab).
