Earn up to 4,000 Bonus Alaska Airlines Miles with Dash for Miles & Back to School Bonuses

Buenos dias everyone!

Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan has a new promotion called “Dash for Miles” where you can earn up to 3,000 bonus Alaska Airlines miles for earning miles with three partners: Mileage Plan Dining, Mileage Plan Shopping, and The Opinion Terminal.

Take the Dash for Miles Challenge. How do 3,000 extra bonus miles sound? The miles are yours when you earn with all three of these partners, once you’ve registered for the offer below. Score 1,000 bonus miles for each partner you earn with through September 30, 2017. Mileage Plan Dining Mileage Plan Dining Earn 3 miles per dollar at over 11,000 participating restaurants. Mileage Plan Shopping Mileage Plan Shopping Earn miles at over 850 online stores like Apple, Groupon, Macy's, and plenty more. Mileage Plan Survey The Opinion Terminal Speak your mind and earn at least 400 miles after you join and complete your first survey.

This is a fairly straightforward promotion, and a pretty easy way to collect extra miles – there doesn’t seem to be any minimum spend requirements for the dining and shopping promotions, and hopefully signing up for The Opinion Terminal and completing one survey isn’t too onerous. Plus, you don’t have to complete all three tasks – you’ll earn a partial bonus even if you complete just one.

San Francisco Travel Meetup with Grant & Tonei (6:30pm on August 7)

Buenos dias everyone!  Sorry I’ve been MIA for a while – it’s been a very busy summer. But now I’m in the Bay Area for Alaska’s inaugural flight from SFO to Mexico City, and to make up for my absence, I decided we should have an opportunity to see Grant’s (burger-eating) talents at Super Duper Burgers this coming Monday.  If you are free Monday evening, please join me, Grant, and other Bay Area travel hackers for burgers, fries, miles, points, MS, and more.  As a reminder, this location is on Market Street between Montgomery and Powell Street BART stations.

  • Where: Super Duper Burgers, 721 Market St, San Francisco, CA 94103 (Google Maps)
  • When: Monday, August 7th from 6:30pm – 8:30pm

ICYMI: Travel News Roundup for Friday, May 26, 2017

Hi everyone! Sorry I missed an update last week – I was in New York City for the weekend and was a little swamped. Here’s all the news that caught my eye over the past two weeks:

Airlines + Miles

Aeromexico is starting new flights from Mexico City to Seattle and Portland, and adding new Mexican destinations from Atlanta and Los Angeles. [Travel Codex]

Alaska Airlines added Helsinki-based Finnair as a Mileage Plan partner. [Alaska Airlines]

I bought one of the first tickets on Alaska Airlines’ new service from San Francisco to Mexico City, scheduled to begin August 8. [Travel with Grant]

American Airlines now offers a full refund within 24 hours of purchase if a flight is booked at least 2 days before departure (previously it was 7 days). [Travel Codex]

Amazing Retention Offer on my American Express Business Platinum Charge Card

Buenos dias everyone. The annual fee posted on my American Express Business Platinum Charge Card on April 26, and since I hate making phone calls, I waited until the very last minute to call about canceling the card. American Express will only refund your annual fee if you cancel or downgrade within 30 days of when the annual fee posts to your card.

Once I finally resigned myself to getting on the phone, I told the representative that I wanted to speak with someone about closing my account because of the recent changes to the Membership Rewards Pay with Points rebate. She mentioned the fact that the card now earns 5 points per dollar spent on amextravel.com, then placed me on hold for several minutes and then handed me off to someone from their OPEN Membership Consulting team.

Alaska Airlines Flights to Mexico City (MEX) Now Bookable (Travel August 8 from SFO & LAX and November 6 from SAN)

Buenos dias everyone. I shared a few months ago that Alaska Airlines announced new flights to Mexico City from San Francisco, Los Angeles, and San Diego. Although they are still awaiting for approval from Mexican authorities to operate the flights, they have announced tentative start dates and are now accepting reservations. Flights from SFO and LAX begin on August 8th, with SAN following on November 6 (probably because they have to wait to have a new Embraer 175 available).
