My Recent American Express Hilton Aspire Credit Card Retention Offer

Good morning everyone.  2 months ago, I wrote Keep, Cancel or Convert? American Express Hilton Aspire Credit Card ($450 Annual Fee).  In that post, I shared that I was offered a retention offer by the American Express rep: earn 10,000 bonus Hilton Honors points after spending $2,000 in 3 months. 10,000 Hilton Honors points is worth about $50 to me and I was planning on keeping the credit card anyways, so I accepted the offer.  A few minutes after the call, I received the following email from American Express.  Unfortunately, the email did not mention any of the retention offer details, but I decided to spend $2,000 on the credit card anyway.

My Barclays Credit Card Retention / Targeted Spending Offers for September 2018 [Letters Added]

Good morning everyone, I hope you had a great weekend.  Last week, I noticed that my $75 annual fee posted on my Barclays Wyndham Rewards Credit Card.  I signed up for this credit card during my September 2017 App-O-Rama and received 45,000 Wyndham Rewards Points as a welcome bonus (enough for 3 free nights, which I still haven’t used yet).  I wrote a similar post about my Barclays Credit Card Targeted / Spending Offers for May 2018.  In today’s post, I will share my retention / targeted spending offers on my 3 Barclays credit cards.

Let’s start with my Barclays Wyndham Rewards Credit Card.  I haven’t put a single dollar of spend on this credit card in the last 10-11 months since I received the sign up bonus, so I wasn’t expecting any retention offers.  After calling Barclays and directly asking for the annual fee to be waived, the rep said that I could downgrade to the no annual fee version of the credit card, but I would miss out on the 6,000 anniversary Wyndham Rewards Points (which she stated would post 45 days from the date the annual fee posted).  I decided that 6,000 Wyndham points was worth $75 and kept the credit card as is.  I then asked if there were any targeted spending offers available and the rep said there was an offer to earn an extra Wyndham Rewards point on gas and grocery purchases.  I wasn’t paying very close attention because that wasn’t the type of offer I wanted.  I was looking for a “Spend $X, get Y bonus Wyndham Rewards Points” type offer.  I asked the rep if there were any other offers and she stated there was only a 0% balance transfer offer available.  I declined the balance transfer offer and told her I would accept the spending offer.  I then asked if she could check my other Barclays credit cards to see if any of those credit cards had targeted spending offers available.

Hilton Ascend Credit Card: Unlink Citi Card; Set up AMEX Card; View AMEX Offers; Call for Retention Offers

Good afternoon everyone.  Today is the day Citi Hilton Honors Reserve Credit Cards are officially converted to American Express Hilton Honors Ascend Credit Cards.  I logged into my Citi online account and noticed that my 2 Citi Hilton Honors Reserve Credit Cards are missing from my account.  The only remnant of their existence is the last 4 digits of the credit card number and links to unlink the credit cards.  A few days ago, I wrote a post on how to remove / unlink Citi credit cards, so check that out if you have any questions.

I then went through the process of setting up both of my American Express Hilton Honors Ascend Credit Cards.  I was able to add both of those credit cards to my American Express online account and there were several AMEX Offers available too.  I also called American Express to inquire about upgrade options to the American Express Hilton Honors Aspire Credit Card and asked about retention offers.  All that info is below, so let’s get started!

Should We Call for AMEX Hilton Ascend Credit Card Retention Offers on January 30?

Good afternoon everyone, I just had an idea and I wanted to run it by you guys.  According to Reuters, American Express paid Citi $150 million dollars for their Hilton credit card portfolio.  I couldn’t find out how many cardmembers that covers, but I assume American Express paid a few bucks per cardmember.  If I were American Express and paid a lot of money for cardmembers and then cardmembers started canceling their new American Express Hilton Ascend Credit Cards before they started using the credit cards, I would be pretty annoyed.  I wonder if American Express thought about that and is prepared to keep cardmembers with decent retention offers.

My Successful Barclays JetBlue Plus Credit Card Retention Call [Targeted Spending Offer Letter Included]

Good morning everyone, another day, another blog post about free money from Barclays. On Monday, I wrote a blog post regarding a $10 statement credit I received from Barclays for adding an authorized user to my Barclays Arrival Plus Credit Card. Yesterday, I called Barclays about my Barclays JetBlue Plus Credit Card. The $99 annual fee posted a few days ago, so I called Barclays to see if there were any retention offers available. I haven’t put much spend on the credit card since meeting the minimum spend but I have racked up thousands of JetBlue TrueBlue points with Amazon.

The first offer I received was for half the annual fee to be waived ($49.50). That was pretty good, but then I asked if there were any other offers available. Yes, she could also tack on a targeted spending offer to get 5,000 bonus JetBlue TrueBlue points for spending $1,000 in the next 90 days. Sold! I accepted that offer.  The $49.50 statement credit posted to my account the next day.
