Sometimes procrastination is a good thing. But in my case I’m still not sure. I’ve had the American Express Premier Rewards Gold Card for many years. When the Amex Everyday credit card came on the scene I always meant to get that card and give up my Amex Premier card, but I never got around to doing that. The news now is that as of October 4, Amex rebranded the Premier Gold Card with the new name American Express Gold Card. Amex says, “New benefits, new look, same card only better.” The rebranding gives us more or less opportunities to earn Membership Rewards points, depending on our spending habits. Good afternoon everyone, happy Friday! A few days ago, I needed to book an award ticket using Avianca LifeMiles, but I didn’t have enough LifeMiles in my account. Luckily, American Express recently added Avianca LifeMiles as a Membership Rewards transfer partner. I thought it would be an easy 1-2-3 process of adding my Avianca LifeMiles account to Membership Rewards, transferring Membership Rewards Points to my Avianca LifeMiles account, and booking the Avianca LifeMiles award ticket. Unfortunately, Membership Rewards was not able to add/verify my Avianca LifeMiles account right away. The first thing I did was to sign into my Membership Rewards account and click on the Avianca LifeMiles tile.

A few days ago, Frequent Miler wrote a post that Citi Thank You Points Transfers to JetBlue were getting better (1,000 : 1,000 transfers), so I wanted to check out transfer times from all the major credit card programs. I wrote a similar post about Transfer Times to KLM / Air France and Transfer Times to Singapore Airlines. I tested transfers from American Express Membership Rewards Points, Citi Thank You Points, and Chase Ultimate Rewards Points. I was going to try a transfer from Marriott Rewards to JetBlue, but the conversion was so bad, I couldn’t do it (see the screenshots below). JetBlue TrueBlue Points do not have a fixed value and they can range in value from 1 cent up to 2.5 cents, if you find the right redemption. In some cases, you are better off paying for JetBlue travel than redeeming JetBlue TrueBlue Points.
But with that said, sometimes it makes sense to transfer points into your JetBlue account. I started with a transfer from American Express Membership Rewards Points since you can transfer in 250 point increments. Unfortunately, since JetBlue is an American airline, American Express charges a fee for the transfer, either 30 Membership Rewards Points or 15 cents. The amount of the fee varies depending on the number of points you transfer.
American Express has a limited time offer on the Business Platinum Card from American Express OPEN. New cardholders earn up to 100,000 Membership Rewards Points.
If you’ve never had the small business version of the Amex Platinum Card and business is going well, this is a great offer. The card is available not just to formal business owners but also sole proprietors and even those who do consulting or freelance work on the side. This offer ends August 8, 2018.
