Good morning everyone, I was looking through my recent American Express statement and saw an ominous message on my American Express EveryDay Credit Card. The message said, “See page 5 for a Notice of Change to the Membership Rewards Program Terms & Conditions.” Uh oh, that sounded pretty bad. I cautiously scrolled down to page 5 expecting the worst. What did American Express do?

A few weeks ago, American Express sent out emails with the subject line “Cash Advance Enrollment Update.” Uh oh, “cash advance” are bad words to any travel hacker and credit card user. I decided to investigate further to see what American Express was up to regarding the cash advance feature on one of my credit cards. Based on the context of the email, it looks like American Express proactively enrolled me in the “Cash Advance program” without getting my permission. I decided to log in and see what was going on.

As I was reviewing my American Express credit and charge cards, I thought of 2 ways to make AMEX Offers better and more useful to cardholders like us. My purpose for this post is to get a few good ideas and share them with American Express in the hope that they read the suggestions from this post and incorporate some of the suggestions into their website and mobile app. I’ll start first and if you think of any other suggestions, please leave a comment below. Right now, AMEX Offers can only be filter by specific categories. To me, this feature is useless because there could be good deals in every category, so I don’t want to exclude any AMEX Offer just because it is in a category that I do not shop at frequently. I would love to see AMEX Offers sortable by expiration date, date added, merchant name, and by discount (dollar or percentage). Then I could quickly see which AMEX Offers are ending soon, which AMEX Offers were added recently, and which AMEX Offers have the biggest discount.
Good morning everyone, happy Friday! By the time you read this post, I will be flying down to La Paz, Bolivia for the start of my Central / South America trip. A few weeks ago, I booked a flight for my brother to Maui, Hawaii. The flight is in mid April and the cost of the ticket was kind of pricey ($500+), but luckily I found United Airlines award space for the flights he wanted. Unfortunately, United Airlines charges 45,000 miles + $11.20 in taxes/fees for a roundtrip flight in economy. Luckily, Singapore Airlines only charges 35,000 miles for the same roundtrip flight in economy to Hawaii. In this post, I will show you how I easily booked an award ticket for my brother using Singapore Airlines miles and how adding him as a redemption nominee made the process even easier.

Good evening everyone. I was reviewing my American Express Platinum Business Charge Card statement this afternoon and spotted this announcement. Effective February 1, American Express Platinum cardholders will no longer earn 2x Membership Reward Points on Uber rides. I believe this change affects all version of the Platinum Card. I think this change has to do with the new Barclays Uber Visa Credit Card which earns 2% cash back on Uber rides. A few months ago, Tonei wrote Lesson Learned: International Uber Rides Do Not Earn 2x Membership Reward Points, but international Uber rides haven’t earned 2x Membership Reward Points in a long time. I looked all over my statement but could not find any more information about this announcement.
