Saudia Business Class A320 & B777 Review (MPX-JED-CGK)

Saudia isn’t an airline that gets talked about a whole lot in the points and miles world, for various reasons. Some of those reasons include that it’s a dry airline (what, no Krug?!), layovers are often long, and there are few flight options from the U.S. Not to mention that very few people are actually traveling to Saudia Arabia, unless it’s for work. I had the opportunity to book a $500 one-way business class flight from Milan, Italy (MXP) to Jakarta, Indonesia (CGK) on Saudia, so I figured it was a great opportunity to try out a new airline and save a few miles — in fact, I earned miles instead, 10,995 of them!

Overall, flying Saudia was a pretty pleasant experience. The seats were more comfortable than I was expecting, the food was quite good, and nothing was lacking about the service. The biggest downside to my flights is that I had a 10-hour overnight layover in Jeddah. I elected to spend the night in the lounge, which was sufficient, but far from great but a HUGE step up over the insanely crowded airport terminal. In general, the whole airport terminal situation was a bit ridiculous. People were sleeping all over the ground and there was some issue with the flight monitor because it never posted a gate for my flight. I was extremely lucky that I heard the final call.

Now… onto the flights.

Hotel Review: Boutique King George Hotel Near Union Square in San Francisco

Updated 12pm PT on 1/8: FTC Disclosure: This was a hosted stay, but all reviews and opinions are my own.

Good morning everyone.  A few weeks ago, my girlfriend and I had the pleasure of staying at the King George Hotel in the heart of San Francisco’s Union Square.  The hotel is part of the Greystone Hotel Group which has a few boutique hotels along the West Coast.  The hotel has a British theme in a charming location.  When I stayed at the hotel, the restaurant / bar near the lobby was going through a renovation (photo at the bottom of this post).  Out front, there is a large British flag flying.  Check in was easy and we took the elevator up to the eighth floor.

Eat These 7 Foods on New Year’s Eve For Good Luck!

We love to travel, right? And when we do travel, many of us enjoy foods from different countries. Even if you’re not superstitious, why not finish off 2017 with these LUCKY foods from around the world! All of them are said to represent various forms of success in the year to come. I’m curious how many of them you know about. I actually didn’t know much about these 7 foods bringing good luck. But now I’m thinking I’ll change up my New Year’s Eve menu. Who can’t use more luck?

1. In American South, greens are said to represent money and financial success.

2. In Italy, China, and Brazil, the shape of beans, especially lentils, is also said to symbolize coins.

3. In many Asian cultures, shiny fish scales represent coins, too, because they resemble them.

Trip Report: ANA 767-300 Business Class NRT-HKG

This is part two of my trip report for my ANA flights from Mexico City to Hong Kong – read the first part here.

My connecting flight to Hong Kong boarded promptly at 9:35am, and we even managed to push back a few minutes early.

Narita to Hong Kong

My onward connection to Hong Kong was on a 767-300 operated by Air Japan (an ANA subsidiary). This plane has a somewhat unusual 2-1-2 configuration in business, so I chose the middle seat in row 2 (someone warned me that people often use the row 1 bulkhead to move between the two aisles). The center seat has more storage than the others: a side console with a large storage compartment, as well as two smaller compartments for glasses and a water bottle. All the seats have a seatback pocket and a literature slot next to the footwell, plus generously sized tray tables, but there’s a lot more storage room and elbow room in the middle seat.

Saudi Robot Gets Citizenship

The world of passports continues to fascinate me. So here’s a question for you, do you think a robot should get a passport? You might answer that first the robot would have to be a citizen. Did you know that’s already happened? I found this article about robots and citizenship interesting, so maybe you will too.
