If you have any questions, please leave a comment below.  Have a great weekend everyone!

SFO and LAS Centurion Lounge Meetup Game Plans

Good evening everyone.  After lots of planning and several emails between American Express and the Centurion Lounge managers, the day has finally arrived.  Here is my game plan for tomorrow’s 2 Centurion Lounge meetups:

SFO Centurion Lounge

I will arrive at SFO between 11:30am and 12pm.  If you get there before I do, please tell the front desk that you are here for the Travel with Grant meetup (I have a few tables reserved).  We can then grab lunch and drinks.  We can talk about miles, points, and travel for the next 2 hours.  The lounge manager will provide a behind-the-scenes tour of the lounge from 2:30-3pm.  I will then leave the lounge at 3pm and head to my Southwest Airlines flight to Las Vegas.   Continue reading

Unintended Consequences: Frozen PayPal Account Blocks eBay Bucks Redemption

Good morning everyone.  A friend of mine sent me an email that his PayPal account was frozen (I didn’t ask why, but I believe it was related to loading PayPal My Cash Cards to his PayPal account).  To add insult to injury, he had $200 in eBay Bucks that were set to expire next week.  If you are unfamiliar with how to redeem eBay Bucks, you must log into your PayPal account to confirm payment, even if your eBay Bucks balance covers the full purchase price.  Long story short, since his PayPal account was frozen, he could not redeem his $200 in eBay Bucks that were expiring next week.

He reached out to me and we brainstormed possible solutions for ways to spend his eBay Bucks.  I had an idea that I could log into his eBay account and use his eBay Bucks by logging into my (unfrozen) PayPal account.  We then brainstormed things to buy on eBay to redeem his eBay Bucks.  His first thought was to buy eBay gift cards, but I told him that in order to redeem eBay gift cards, you need to log into your PayPal account.  That would put him back in the same situation he is in now.  I thought about buying Amazon gift cards and he agreed with my plan.

After I logged into his eBay account, I found a few Amazon gift cards that added up close to $200.  Side note: Amazon gift cards are the only gift cards on eBay that often sell for more than face value (around 8-15% above face value).  The sellers know that people willingly pay more than face value for Amazon gift cards, so they can charge higher prices.

My Short Term MS Plans with 4 Dead Redbirds (Target Memo)

Good morning everyone, I’m sure everyone knows about the Target memo (thanks Bill!), but if not, here it is below.  I’m not going to lie, this sucks big time.  I had 4 Redbird Cards (myself, mom, dad, and brother) and Redbird was involved with 95% of all my MS activities.  With the demise of debit card reloads, there is a mass exodus to Bluebird and Serve.  Not me.  I’m not switching to Bluebird or Serve.  There are no Walmarts within walking distance (like my local Target) and I have no interest in driving to Walmart.
