PSA: Transferred Hilton Points Post Instantly, But Cannot Be Redeemed Immediately

Good morning everyone, happy Friday.  A few days ago, I wanted to use my Hilton Honors Points to book a 2 night stay at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel San Diego Downtown.  The price was 39,000 Hilton Honors Points per night, for a total of 78,000 Hilton Honors Points needed.  The only problem was that I was a little short on Hilton Honors Points… I only had 73,000 Hilton Honors Points and needed 5,000 more Hilton Honors Points to book the entire award without paying the cash co-pay.

How to Book Flights with Citi Thank You Points

With the recent 75,000 point sign up bonus for the Citi Prestige Credit Card, I started thinking about my Citi Thank You Points. I’ve accumulated a rather large number of Citi Thank You Points, and have recently decided to start spending them on flights. I don’t put much spend on my Citi Prestige Credit Card EXCEPT for using the card at hotels for the 4th night free hotel benefit. Since I’ve been using that perk for a few years now, I was pleasantly surprised when I logged into my Citi Thank You account and saw my stash of Citi Thank You Points.

Citi Thank You Points are earned through credit cards issued by Citibank and can be redeemed for a variety of rewards. I’ve looked at using points at hotels, but I’ve decided that redeeming them for flights makes more sense. This meant I had to learn to use the site to book flights. When I learn something new, I like to share it with you all too, so this post focuses on redeeming Citi Thank You Points for flights.

I consider Citi Thank You Points to be almost the same as cash. I say almost because, on some occasions, tickets might cost slightly less on sites like Kayak, Expedia, or Travelocity. It’s always good to check the other OTAs to compare prices. And remember, using your Citi Thank You Points does earn you frequent flyer miles for the tickets you book, so I’ll show you below how to filter for specific airlines.

How much are Citi Thank You Points worth?

The value of Citi Thank You Points toward flights depends on which Citi credit cards you have:

  • Citi Thank You Credit Card & Citi Thank You Preferred Credit Card: 1 cent per point
  • Citi Thank You Premier Credit Card: 1.25 cents per point
  • Citi Prestige Credit Card: 1.6 cents on American Airlines (changing soon) and 1.33 cents on other airlines

Citi AT&T Access More Credit Card: 10,000 Bonus Thank You Points Post Before $95 Annual Fee

Good morning everyone, happy Sunday.  Last June, I applied for the Citi AT&T Access More Credit Card and have been waiting all year for the annual fee to post.  Why?  When you spend $10,000 or more on the Citi AT&T Access More Credit Card during your cardmember year, you will receive 10,000 bonus Citi Thank You Points when you anniversary comes around.  In this post, I will shows you when the 10,000 bonus Citi Thank You Points post and when the $95 annual fee posts (hint: the bonus points post before the annual fee).  Here are a few pages from the Citi AT&T Access More Credit Card directory of services:

Should you Downgrade to the No Annual Fee Citi AT&T Access Credit Card?

Good morning everyone, happy Wednesday.  Yesterday, Citi sent out emails to all Citi AT&T Access More Credit Card members telling them that Citi AT&T Access More Credit Card will Earn 1x for Gift Card Purchases & Real Estate Payments (Effective July 22, 2017).  This caused mass panic in the miles and points community and got me thinking, is there a better card to use than the Citi AT&T Access More Credit Card?  Maybe!

I searched on Google for a no annual fee Citi AT&T credit card and stumbled onto the Citi AT&T Access Credit Card that has no annual fee.  That credit card has a 10,000 Citi Thank You Point sign up bonus and earns 2x for online purchases and AT&T purchases, and 1x on all other purchases.  Unfortunately, that credit card does not offer a 10,000 Citi Thank You Point bonus when you spend $10,000 or more during your cardmember year.  This credit card also has the same change in earning on gift card purchases and real estate payments effective July 22, 2017.

Citi AT&T Access More Credit Card will Earn 1x for Gift Card Purchases & Real Estate Payments (Effective July 22, 2017)

Good morning everyone, I just received an email from Citi regarding my Citi AT&T Access More Credit Card.  Effective July 22, 2017, purchases of gift cards, reloading of gift cards, rent payments, and real estate payments will only earn 1x Citi Thank You Point, instead of the standard 3x Citi Thank You Points for the “online purchases” category.  This is really bad news for anyone who normally makes those purchases expecting to earn 3x Citi Thank You Points.
