Chase Checking Accounts: More Ways to Waive Monthly Service Fees & Debit Card Benefits Ending Nov 30

Good afternoon everyone, I hope you all had a great weekend.  I really enjoyed the Virtual Chicago Seminars and the virtual networking events – I look forward to seeing everyone in person next year in Chicago.  In other news, I was reviewing my recent Chase Savings Account statement and saw this announcement.  A few things are strange and stand out to me.  First, these changes affect Chase Checking Accounts, not Chase Savings Accounts, so I am not sure why this appeared on my recent savings statement and not my recent checking statement.  Secondly, the changes went into effect on September 13 and this statement covers the time period of September 17 through October 16, so I would have expected this announcement on my previous statement.  But enough about those details, let’s cover the changes in the announcement.

Effective September 13, Chase will include additional electronic payments that post to your checking account to qualify for the monthly service fee waiver.  I will go into those changes in the next section.

Effective December 1, Chase debit card holders will no longer have access to benefits in the Visa Benefits Package.  I couldn’t find a link to what is included in the Visa Benefits Package, but I found a link for Chase Business Checking Accounts that mentions Purchase Security, Extended Protection, Auto Rental CDW, and Travel and Emergency Assistance.  I assume most / all of those benefits are included in the personal / consumer version of the Visa Benefits Package, so it is sad to see those benefits ending on November 30 for Chase debit card holders.

Chase Sapphire Reserve Double Dip: $300 Annual Travel Credit + Pay Yourself Back

Good morning everyone, happy Friday!  I routinely check my credit card transactions a few times a week and noticed that the $300 annual travel credit began to post on my Chase Sapphire Reserve Credit Card.  In this post, I will show you how to double dip the same transactions that qualified for the $300 annual travel credit and are also eligible for Chase’s Pay Yourself Back feature.  As you can see below, a $6.45 Ralph’s grocery store purchase was eligible for the $300 annual travel credit.

Work from Home Diary: 7 Months Later

Good morning everyone, welcome to October and the start of Q4 (aka the Holiday Season).  7 months ago, I started sharing my thoughts regarding working from home in a series of Work from Home Diary posts.  It’s been more than 3 months since my last diary post (Work from Home Diary: Eating in Restaurants & Sunburns at the Beach (SoCal Update)), but I thought it would be fun to share what working from home is like, 7 months later.

First off, Laura and I are very fortunate that our families have stayed healthy and safe throughout the Coronavirus Pandemic and that we are both still employed (*knock on wood*).  Even before I first became aware of COVID-19, I worked from home 2-3 days a week.  Since March 1, I transitioned to working from home 5 days a week.  The transition process was pretty easy since my home office was already set up.  As long as a I have an internet connection and power to charge my laptop, I can work literally anywhere in the world.  Thunder and lightning storms, power outages, and smoke from multiple nearby fires has made me feel a little uneasy the last few months.  Every time I think to myself, “Oh 2020, how can things get worse?” something undoubtedly new pops up to remind me that life is truly unpredictable.

JPMorgan Chase Ritz Carlton Credit Card: Redeem $300 Travel Credit for Restaurants & Grocery Stores via Secure Message

Good morning everyone, happy Friday!  Earlier this month, Frequent Miler wrote Ritz card: Double Dip Restaurants 10X + $300. In that post, Greg covered 2 overlapping promotions available on the JPMorgan Chase Ritz Carlton Visa Infinite Credit Card:

  • Earn 10x Marriott Bonvoy Points at restaurants and gas stations through September 30, 2020
  • Use the $300 annual travel credit to reimburse purchases made at grocery stores and restaurants though December 31, 2020

Before the Coronavirus Pandemic, I used $84.67 of my $300 annual travel credit, so I still had $215.33 remaining that I needed to use by December 31, 2020.  With the above information in mind, I decided to use my Ritz Carlton Credit Card for purchases at grocery stores and restaurants until I spent at least $215.33.  I made the necessary purchases and clicked the pie chart icon to confirm that the purchases fell into the right categories.
