My Incredible 14 Seat Cessna Flight from San Jose (SJO) to Liberia, Costa Rica (LIR)

Good morning everyone.  Yesterday, I wrote this post: PSA: Get Yellow Fever Vaccine Before Visiting Nicaragua (& Some Other Central / South American Countries).  At the end of that post, I mentioned that I had an amazing flight from San Jose, Costa Rica (SJO) to Liberia, Costa Rica (LIR) on 14 seat Cessna aircraft.  Here is my flight experience with lots of photos and a short video of my takeoff and landing.  I purchased the flight the night before (at the Managua, Nicaragua (MGA) airport) and the flight time was 50 minutes, with ~35 minutes of that in-flight.

PSA: Get Yellow Fever Vaccine Before Visiting Nicaragua (& Some Other Central / South American Countries)

If you have any plans to visit the rainforest or any other tropical region of Central / South America, I highly recommend getting your Yellow Fever Vaccine (YFV).  The vaccine is good for your health and you can avoid the uncomfortable situation I recently had where I had to sleep in the Managua, Nicaragua (MGA) airport because I did not have a Yellow Fever Vaccine.

Let me back up a little bit…

2 weeks ago, Jim and I flew from San Salvador, El Salvador (SAL) to Managua, Nicaragua (MGA).  When we got off the plane, there were 3 doctors who were meeting with passengers and reviewing their passport and custom form.  The line was moving pretty quickly until I handed over my passport and custom form to one of the doctors.  She flipped through my passport a few times, carefully looking at passport stamps, then back to my custom form, and then back to my passport.  I had no idea what she was looking for, I assumed she was looking for my El Salvador exit stamp, but that was not the case.

6 Things to See & Do in Lisbon (Besides Eating Pastries)

Last year’s love affair was with sLOVEnia. This year’s love affair, though it’s early in the year, seems destined to be with Portugal, and in particular, Lisbon. Portugal works for me on so many levels. The people, culture, food, geography, and general vibe of the place just suited me perfectly. I know for many travelers, Portugal is likely to be a been-there-done-that destination. For me, it was my first visit, and if I had been-there-and done-that before, I for sure would have gone back over and over again. That’s how much I enjoyed it!  Please check out Part 1 and Part 2 of my pastry love affair. Without gushing too much about how wonderful Lisbon is, I want to give you 6 ideas for what to do and see that won’t likely end up on any MUST SEE lists you’ll find online.

1. Campo Pequeno is a bullfight arena that hosted the Portuguese bullfights since 1892. The building is stunning! It’s a beautiful neo-arabian building, all made of bricks, that was entirely renovated in 2006. There’s a museum dedicated to the history of bullfighting. The lowest level is now a shopping mall with a movie theater and restaurants. As I’d never been inside a bullfight arena before, I really found it very interesting just to walk around. I thought turning the bottom level into a mall was actually a good use of the space. It’s always fun to walk through malls when I travel and see what’s different or unique.

PSA: Check Existing Airline Confirmations for Cancelled Flights a Few Days Before Travel

Whenever you buy an airline ticket, you probably enter your email address and pay with a credit card. You will then receive an email confirmation and see the flight purchase on your credit card. If the airline makes a schedule change, they *should* send you an email with the new schedule details or you might receive an email alert from Award Wallet. But what would you do if the airline cancelled your flight, never rebooked you on another flight, never told you your flight was cancelled, and never refunded you credit card? That was the situation I was in recently when I was flying Amaszonas from Salar de Uyuni , Bolivia(UYU) in southern Bolivia.
