CleverLayover Search Engine: Find Cheap Flights and Really Long Layovers

(Hat Tip to Paul for finding this CN Traveler article)

Good morning everyone, I just learned about a new search engine for finding cheap flights.  But there is a catch… you usually end up with a long really long layover/stopover at 1 or more airports.  According to the article: “Launched last month by students at Harvard Business School, the new site searches routes to and from the world’s 500 largest airports—in Europe and beyond—to ‘combine two round trip tickets from non-partner airlines to find the cheapest fares.’ ”  Some people might see layovers/stopovers as a waste of time, while others see it as an added bonus where they can explore the city for a few hours/days.  Without further ado, let me show you how CleverLayover works…

Enter your round trip flight details into the search box.  As of right now, you can only search for round trip flights, no one ways or multi-city searches.

March App-O-Rama Updates: US Airways, British Airways, Alaska Airlines, Virgin Atlantic, and FlexPerks AMEX

Good morning everyone, happy April Fool’s Day.  No pranks today for me, I don’t have time for those.  Before I went on my RV road trip, I did a mini App-O-Rama in mid March and it’s been almost 2 weeks, so I can now share all my results.  If you have been reading my blog for a while, you probably know about my ongoing battle with Barclays.  I have applied for 5-6 Barclays credit cards over the last 2 years or so and have been denied every time.  Since the Barclays US Airways Credit Card is going away very soon, I thought I would try for that card one more time.  The sign up bonus is 50,000 US Airways miles (now those are 50,000 American Airlines miles) after your first purchase.

Requesting New Chase EMV Cards: Freedom, United MileagePlus, and Southwest Airlines Plus & Premier

(Hat Tip to Doctor of Credit’s post)

Good evening everyone, there is no doubt in my mind that I love Chase and Chase loves me.  I have quite a few credit cards (both personal and business) with Chase.  I always want the latest card design (remember the new Citi American Airlines Executive Credit Card? or the new Chase Ink Bold/Plus Business Cards?) and am a big fan of EMV (aka Chip and Signature) credit cards.  After reading Will’s recent post about the Chase United Airlines MileagePlus Credit Card adding EMV chips to their card, I decided to call Chase.

Booking Alaska Airlines Saver Award Space with British Airways Avios (SAN-PVR)

(Hat Tip to Rich for the question)

Rich was looking for award space from San Diego (SAN) to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico (PVR) in October, but was confused by Alaska Airline’s Saver Award Space.  He has plenty of British Airways Avios and wanted to see which Alaska Airlines flights were available using British Airways Avios.  By looking at the entire month of October, I was able to find 3 days with Alaska Airlines Saver Award Space on the outbound (Oct 11, 19, and 25) and several more dates on the return.

Complete List of British Airways Avios Routes from the Bay Area (SFO, OAK, and SJC)

Let me start off by saying that British Airways Avios are awesome.  If you fly short, non-stop flights, British Airways Avios cannot be beat.  I’ve written a few posts about British Airways Avios in the past:

With that said, I have been asked a few times about the current 40% Transfer Bonus to British Airways from American Express Membership Rewards that is ending on January 31.  To me, this is probably the best Membership Reward transfer bonus I have seen in the last 2 years.
