I Closed my AMEX Hilton Ascend Credit Card & Received a $95 Statement Credit (Refunded Annual Fee)

Good morning everyone, happy Friday.  When I was doing research for my previous Hilton post (Hilton Ascend Credit Card: Unlink Citi Card; Set up AMEX Card; View AMEX Offers; Call for Retention Offers), I closed one of my American Express Hilton Ascend Credit Cards.  A few days later, I logged back into American Express and saw a $95 statement credit on my account.  That was surprising since I hadn’t used the credit card in several months before it was converted from Citi to American Express.  I did some digging and found out that the $95 was a refund of my annual fee.

Hilton Ascend Credit Card: Unlink Citi Card; Set up AMEX Card; View AMEX Offers; Call for Retention Offers

Good afternoon everyone.  Today is the day Citi Hilton Honors Reserve Credit Cards are officially converted to American Express Hilton Honors Ascend Credit Cards.  I logged into my Citi online account and noticed that my 2 Citi Hilton Honors Reserve Credit Cards are missing from my account.  The only remnant of their existence is the last 4 digits of the credit card number and links to unlink the credit cards.  A few days ago, I wrote a post on how to remove / unlink Citi credit cards, so check that out if you have any questions.

I then went through the process of setting up both of my American Express Hilton Honors Ascend Credit Cards.  I was able to add both of those credit cards to my American Express online account and there were several AMEX Offers available too.  I also called American Express to inquire about upgrade options to the American Express Hilton Honors Aspire Credit Card and asked about retention offers.  All that info is below, so let’s get started!

Convert any Citi Card to the Citi AT&T Access More Credit Card

Good afternoon everyone, I have another short post for you guys.  Recently, I decided that I no longer wanted my Citi Dividend Credit Card – the bonus categories did not excite me this year.  So, I called Citi and asked if I could convert my Citi Dividend Credit Card into the Citi AT&T Access More Credit Card.  Unfortunately, the rep said that credit card was not available as a conversion option on my Citi Dividend Credit Card.  No worries, I asked if I could convert to the no annual fee Citi AT&T Access Credit Card instead.  Yes, she said, I could convert to that credit card.  I then asked her if I could then convert my Citi AT&T Access Credit Card to the Citi AT&T Access More Credit Card and she was not sure.  I had a hunch that it would work, so I went ahead and converted my Citi Dividend Credit Card into the no annual fee Citi AT&T Access Credit Card.  A few days later, I received my new Citi AT&T Access Credit Card.

Should We Call for AMEX Hilton Ascend Credit Card Retention Offers on January 30?

Good afternoon everyone, I just had an idea and I wanted to run it by you guys.  According to Reuters, American Express paid Citi $150 million dollars for their Hilton credit card portfolio.  I couldn’t find out how many cardmembers that covers, but I assume American Express paid a few bucks per cardmember.  If I were American Express and paid a lot of money for cardmembers and then cardmembers started canceling their new American Express Hilton Ascend Credit Cards before they started using the credit cards, I would be pretty annoyed.  I wonder if American Express thought about that and is prepared to keep cardmembers with decent retention offers.

Hunch: Is Citi Increasing Credit Limits on Other Cards for Customers Losing Citi Hilton Credit Cards?

Good morning everyone, greetings from the beautiful, tropical, peaceful Andaz Papagayo in Liberia, Costa Rica.  I have a quite a lot of blog posts to get to before I can share my review of this hotel, but (spoiler alert!) this hotel is amazing!  Lots of pictures to come from that upcoming hotel review.  Anyway, back to today’s topic at hand.  Is Citi increasing credit limits on some of their credit cards for customers who are losing a Citi Hilton credit card to American Express?  Short answer: I have no idea, this is just a hunch, so I may be completely wrong.  I have 2 Citi Hilton Honors Reserve Credit Card, each with $10,000 credit limits, that are in the process of being converted to American Express Hilton Ascend Credit Cards.  Since there is no way for me to touch the $10,000 credit limit on either of my 2 Citi Hilton Honors Reserve Credit Cards, I am going to lose $20,000 in credit limit from Citi, which represents more than 50% of my total credit limit with Citi.

With that being said, I just received the following email from Citi regarding the credit limit on my Citi Thank You Premier Credit Card.  This credit card went from a $5,000 credit limit up to to an $8,000 credit limit, but that is neither my oldest Citi credit card or the Citi credit card that I use the most (this credit card actually gets no love anymore since I now use my Chase Sapphire Reserve Credit Card for all of my travel expenses).
