American Airlines Business Extra: Don’t Forget to Double Dip on your AA Flights

Do you know that American Airlines has another mileage earning program besides its Advantage Mileage Program? So, yes, you earn miles in both programs. I joined it years ago, but I’ll admit to not utilizing the program and its bonuses very well or very often. In my effort to not leave miles/points on the table, I’m paying more attention to programs like these, and so should you. The program is called Business Extra. It allows businesses and “businesses” to earn extra miles for their employees and “employees” flights. It’s American Airlines way of rewarding small businesses. These Business Extra miles are earned in a separate mileage program. You earn points based on dollars spent on eligible flights, so your stash won’t grow as fast as your Advantage Program miles will, but it still makes sense to double dip when you can. You can still credit the flights on American Airlines to any partner airline you’d like, but as long as your Business Extra number is on your ticket, you’ll earn Business Extra points too.

Find the Perfect Routing for your Next Award Flight

Do you have all the time in the world to keep track of all the airlines, the alliances, which airlines are adding flights and routes, and which routes are being canceled? I certainly don’t. I was reminded of this a few weeks ago when United announced its new non-stops to Europe for Summer 2018. Sure, these are seasonal routes, but still, for those of us who work hard accumulating miles and points, this is exactly the kind of knowledge we need to book those award tickets, and book them early. Knowing when award charts open, and seasonal route award seats are bookable, is just not something I’m good about keeping track of. In addition to United’s new Summer routes, United also started daily service between LAX and Singapore and between New York and Buenos Aires. See what I mean? That’s a lot of news to follow. And that’s just United.

Up to 50% Bonus when you Buy Alaska Airlines Miles (Expires Today!)

If you want extra Alaska Airlines miles, you better hurry! Today, October 5, is the last day to get in on this deal. It’s a great deal IF you were targeted and got the 50% bonus level. I unfortunately only got targeted for the 40% bonus. After all the good things I’ve said about Alaska Airlines they can’t show me 50% love :) A lucky family member got targeted at the 50% bonus level, so she’s already purchased her miles!

American Express May Temporarily Suspend Credit Card Earning & Redeeming Ability (Effective November 1)

Update: For more discussion about this change, check out this Doctor of Credit post and this Reddit thread.

Good morning everyone.  I was reviewing my American Express credit card statements last night and I noticed an update to the program terms printed on my American Express Everyday Credit Card statement.  Effective November 1, American Express has the ability to temporarily suspend your ability to earn and redeem American Express Membership Reward Points if they suspect that you are abusing, misusing, or gaming their rewards program.   Further down on the program terms update, American Express also lists possible actions they may take to your credit cards:

  • Take away any points in your program account
  • Temporarily suspend your ability to redeem points
  • Temporarily suspend your ability to earn points
  • Cancel your program account
  • Cancel any of your American Express Cards

I am not sure if this is much different than getting an American Express Financial Review, but it sounds serious.  Who knows how American Express will enforce these new program terms, but here is the complete program terms update for you to read:

Caroline Lupini: An Introduction

Well, in typical Caroline fashion, I got too excited about writing a travel related post and completely forgot to introduce myself!

So hey, nice to meet you!

I’ve been around the points and miles world for a while, so perhaps you’ve seen my name somewhere. I used to write a blog on Boarding Area called Point Princess, but I wanted to expand my blogging topics beyond points and miles, so I started an über creatively named site called Caroline Lupini.

Since then, I definitely haven’t slowed down on the points and miles writing, but I’ve also had some fun writing a few destination pieces too.

Overall, my goal is to travel as much as I can. I have the luxury of working online, so I spend about half of the year outside of the U.S. I’ve been to 70 countries so far, and I hope to one day visit them all. I really enjoy off-the-beaten-path destinations like Iraqi Kurdistan, Algeria, and Myanmar, and I’m super excited about my upcoming trip to Iran!
