Credit Card Affiliate Links: An Update

Good morning everyone, happy TGIF (Thank Grant It’s Friday).  I hope you have exciting plans for this coming weekend.  As I wrote yesterday, I will be headed to Phoenix this weekend for a few Spring Training baseball games.  I really appreciate all the great comments and tips from experienced Spring Training attendees.  If you are thinking or planning on going to Spring Training, I definitely recommend reading the comments of that post.

Anyway, I wanted to update my readers that I recently added credit card affiliate links back to my Credit Card Page.  You can also access the credit card page by clicking on the View Credit Card Offers link in the right sidebar.  Unfortunately, I do not have direct credit card affiliate links to specific cards, but the affiliate links I do have will show you similar credit cards grouped by category.  Since I do not have direct credit card affiliate links, I will not bombard you with credit card links throughout every post.  If I mention a specific credit card or credit cards in a post, I will provide a link on the bottom of the post that will take you to my credit card page.  I greatly appreciate your support if you decide to use any of the links to apply for a credit card.

Bad use of AS $99 Companion Ticket & Codeshare AA / AS Booking with Citi Thank You Points

Good morning from rainy San Francisco.  I hope you all had a great (sunny) weekend.  Since I was stuck inside most of the weekend, I did some travel planning (I do that anyway even if the weather is great).  I booked a quick weekend trip to Portland in mid May and I even found Alaska Airlines saver award space for the return flight from PDX to SFO at a convenient time (not 6 or 7am).  After calling British Airways several times and finally getting through after hearing the busy dial tone 5+ times, I booked the return flight using British Airways Avios.  It was not the greatest redemption ever, but I had British Airways Avios to burn.

For the outbound flight from SFO to PDX, I searched on Google Flights and found a few decent flight times and prices.  Since I am traveling with my roommate, I needed to get 2 tickets.  I have access to a few Alaska Airlines $99 companion ticket codes (the codes are transferrable and can be booked by anyone).  Here is the standard price for 2 one way tickets:

SFO-PDX AS No Companion Ticket

And here is the price with the $99 Alaska Airlines companion ticket.  As you can see, the price with the companion ticket is 43 cents higher than booking the flights without the companion ticket.  I decided to save the companion ticket for a future flight and researched other flight options.

False Alarm: Citi Forward Card is not going to 2x and Citi Business Thank You Card is not Available

(Hat Tip to Travel Codex for the inspiration)

Good morning everyone, happy Super Bowl Sunday.  Before the Big Game kicks off, let’s examine the recent changes to the Citi Thank You Points program terms and conditions.  If you like long, boring posts about Citi credit cards, this post is for you.  I know Travel Codex covered this topic on February 2, but my letter arrived late (a recent change of address is causing all my mail to arrive late).  Anyway, in the letter, Citi announced 4 changes:

  1. Auto-enrollment in Shop with Points at Amazon.com
  2. Pay with Points
  3. Treatment of Points Balances Upon Death
  4. Points Expiration

I will go super in-depth to cover each of these topics and share some interesting findings regarding the Citi Prestige, Citi Premier, Citi Forward, and Citi Business Thank You Card.

Good afternoon everyone, here is a summary of my 2 week trip to Europe from January 2016.  Here is my planning and booking process: Hotel & Flight Bookings for LHR, CDG, NCE, MUC, VCE, and DUB.  Here is a visual representation of my intra-European flights.  I also flew from SFO-LAX-LHR on American Airlines and DUB-SFO on Aer Lingus (not pictured).

Hotel Review: Hilton Molino Stucky Venice (Diamond Status & Lounge Access)

Good evening from Dublin (and my last night in Europe).  Here is a hotel review for my second to last hotel in Europe… the Hilton Molino Stucky Venice.  Before I show you pictures of the hotel room and canals of Venice, I will show you how to get from the airport to the hotel.  First things first, all the info I used was found here.  You need to take the ATVO airport bus to the “water bus terminal” (P.le Roma).  The airport bus costs €8 one way or €15 round trip per person.

Here are driving directions, but the bus takes the same route.  The trip takes around 25 minutes and the ATVO bus leaves the airport and “water bus terminal” pretty frequently.
