Transfer Times to KLM / Air France from Chase Ultimate Rewards, AMEX Membership Rewards, Citi Thank You Points & SPG Starpoints

Update 8pm PT on 5/24: My 1500 SPG points posted to my KLM / Air France account within 48 hours of making the transfer (Tuesday afternoon).  SPG may do a bulk transfer at the same time for everyone, so your transfer times may vary.

Good morning everyone, I hope you all had a great weekend.  I was in Portland over the weekend and had my fair share of food carts, Voodoo Donuts, rain drizzles, and weird people.  But enough about me… it’s all about KLM / Air France today.  Yesterday, Frequent Miler reported that KLM / Air France was added as a Chase Ultimate Rewards transfer partner.  This is great news because you can now get KLM / Air France Flying Blue miles from all 4 major points currencies: Chase Ultimate Rewards Points, Citi Thank You Points, American Express Membership Reward Points, and SPG Points.  In this post, I will show you how long transfers from each points currency takes to post to your KLM / Air France account.  This post is a sequel to Transfer Times to Singapore Airlines from Chase Ultimate Rewards, AMEX Membership Rewards, Citi Thank You Points, and SPG Starpoints.  I have always wanted to book a KLM / Air France promo award, so hopefully that dream comes true.

Chicago Seminars Scheduled for October 14-16th, 2016, Book Cheap Virgin America Flights Now

Good morning everyone, I hope your week is off to a great start.  My friend Jim just told me that the dates for the Chicago Seminars have been announced and scheduled for October 14-16, 2016 (FlyerTalk thread).  I love going to the Chicago Seminars and I feel like it is the best-valued travel conference available.  Even though the registration link is not available yet, I already booked my flights to the event.

FT Chicago Seminars Post

Virgin America has some very good prices with flights from SFO-ORD starting at around $130 each way.  I love getting to Chicago early on Friday afternoon so I can catch up with old friends and meet new people before the conference kicks off later in the evening.

How to Share or Transfer Citi Thank You Points to Another Account

Good morning everyone, I hope you had a great weekend.  In this post, I will show you how to share (aka transfer) points from your Citi Thank You Points account to another Citi Thank You Points account.  This process is different than The Easy and Hard Way to Combine Citi Thank You Points into 1 Account.  To get started, sign into your Citi Thank You Points account by going to thankyou.com.  After signing into your account, click the More Ways to Redeem tab, and click SEE ALL.  Don’t click the Points Transfer option.

Citi Thank You Home Page

If you mistakenly click Points Transfer, you will see the below page.  This page is great if you want to transfer Citi Thank You Points to one of Citi’s travel partners (see my tutorial here), but you cannot transfer Citi Thank You Points to another account from this page.

My First Experience Booking an Award Ticket with Singapore Airlines Miles (Flying on United Airlines)

Good morning everyone, a few weeks ago, I wrote Transfer Times to Singapore Airlines from Chase Ultimate Rewards, AMEX Membership Rewards, Citi Thank You Points, and SPG Starpoints.  In that post, I learned that transfers to Singapore Airlines were not instant and vary by transferable points program.  Nothing is worse that transferring points to miles and waiting for the miles to post.  It can be extremely nerve racking and frustrating to keep refreshing your Singapore Airlines account and seeing no change.

Long story short, I needed to book a very short notice award ticket for my friend from Germany back to the US.  And by short notice, I mean less than 24 hours between request and flight departure.  I did not have enough Singapore Airlines miles to book a one way from Europe to the US (which costs 27,500 Singapore Airlines miles), so I initiated a transfer from Citi Thank You Points around 8am PT.  I was hoping the Singapore Airlines miles would post within a few hours, but that did not happen.  I checked every few hours after that, but still no luck.  Right before I went to bed (around 11pm PT), I checked one more time, but still no luck.  I went to bed and set my alarm for 5:30am PT.  Luckily I heard my alarm go off and saw that the miles posted to my account (almost 24 hours after after initiating the transfer).

Transfer Times to Virgin America from AMEX Membership Rewards and Citi Thank You Points

Update: 9/24/2015 at 10am: summary of transfer times:

  • AMEX Membership Reward Points to Virgin America are instant.
  • Citi Thank You Points to Virgin America take 24-48 hours to post.

Good morning everyone, I needed to book a Virgin America flight from SFO to SAN and luckily there are 2 transfer bonuses currently running for Virgin America.  Through October 8, American Express has a 25% transfer bonus when transferring Membership Reward Points to Virgin America miles (Doctor of Credit).

Unfortunately, I have 2 complaints about AMEX Membership Reward Point transfers.  To complete a transfer, you must enter the 4-digit (front) and 3-digit (back) security code on your Membership Reward earning credit/charge card (I selected my AMEX Platinum Charge Card).  If you do not have your Membership Reward earning credit/charge card available, you will not be able to go past this screen and complete your transfer.  This is incredibly annoying when you need to make a transfer and do not have the card in front of you.  I much prefer using Chase Ultimate Reward Points and Citi Thank You Points which can be transferred much faster/easier since you do not need to enter any card information to complete the transfer.
