My Experience with the American Express Gold Card $100 Airline Fee Credit

Good afternoon everyone.  As part of my March App-O-Rama, I was approved for the American Express Gold Card.  A few weeks ago, I wrote How to Enroll in American Express Gold Card Benefits ($120 Dining Credit & $100 Airline Fee Credit).  In that post, I showed how to enroll in the $100 airline fee credit benefit.  The process was very easy.  I selected Southwest Airlines as my airline of choice and purchased a $100 Southwest Airlines eGC to trigger the $100 airline fee credit.  Unfortunately, my $100 purchase did not trigger the benefit.

How to Enroll in American Express Gold Card Benefits ($120 Dining Credit & $100 Airline Fee Credit)

Good morning everyone. Yesterday, I wrote Unboxing my American Express Gold Card: Card Art & Welcome Documents and How to Activate & Set Up American Express Gold Card in AMEX Online Account.  In this post, I will go through the benefits of the American Express Gold Card (my referral link) and show you how to enroll in 2 important benefits: $120 Dining Credit & $100 Airline Fee Credit.  To get started, sign into your American Express online account, click on your Gold Card and then click the Benefits link to go to the Benefits page.  As you can see, these 2 benefits require you to enroll in them before the benefits kick in, so make sure you do this right away.

Reality Check: My Dilemma Booking $200+ Hotel Room (But $200+ Flights Are No Problem)

Good afternoon everyone.  My last reality check post was pretty popular (Reality Check: Traveling with Non-TSA PreCheck Travelers Sucks) so hopefully you guys enjoy this post and I get some good feedback from you guys.  Here is some background info and how I think.  I love nonstop flights and tend to book those even if they are not the cheapest option.  Booking flights under $100, under $200, and under $300 do not bother me at all, but when it comes to booking a hotel room, I find it hard to justify paying $200+ for a hotel room.  For the nonstop flights that I tend to book, using miles is not ideal.  Either the flight is so cheap that I would be getting a terrible value using miles (like a $100 Alaska Airlines flight vs. 12,500 Alaska Airlines miles) or only standard awards are available (like a $200 United Airlines flight vs. 25,000 United Airlines miles).  I mostly fly Southwest Airlines and have a stockpile of Southwest Airlines gift cards (thanks to airline reimbursements from American Express Business Platinum, American Express Hilton Aspire, and Chase Southwest Airlines Priority) and discounted gift cards sold on eBay, along with many Southwest Airlines travel credits that I need to use before they expire.  When I fly Southwest Airlines, I always use up my travel funds and then redeem Southwest Airlines gift cards.  In those instances, those Southwest Airlines flights seem much cheaper to me than the original price.

Buy Miles/Points Promos Ending Soon: IHG (75%), United (85%), Etihad (20%) & Southwest (40%)

Good afternoon everyone.  I was working on my Buy Miles & Points Page and found a few offers ending soon.  Always check the math to make sure that buying miles & points makes sense for you.  Do not buy miles & points speculatively unless you have a use in mind.  With that said, here are 4 buy miles/points promos ending this week.  First up, IHG is offering up to a 75% bonus, depending on the number of IHG Rewards Club Points you purchase.  This offer expires today – February 28.

Gift Cards Trigger $75 Annual Travel Credit for Chase Southwest Airlines Priority Credit Card

Good afternoon everyone, greetings from Macedonia!  I’ve been traveling around Eastern Europe this week, but I noticed that the Chase Southwest Airlines credit cards have changed their sign up bonuses and some cards are now offering the Southwest Airlines Companion Pass.   Even though the Southwest Airlines Companion Pass is awesome, I want to talk about the Chase Southwest Airlines Priority Credit Card.  My girlfriend recently converted her Chase Southwest Airlines Plus Credit Card to the Chase Southwest Airlines Priority Credit Card, and part of the card benefits is a $75 annual travel credit.  Much like the airline reimbursements on the American Express Hilton Aspire Credit Card and the American Express Platinum Charge Cards, I assumed airline gift cards would trigger the $75 statement credit, but I had to find out for myself.
