Good morning everyone. Last week, I did my July App-O-Rama and was instantly approved for the Banco Popular Avianca Vuela Credit Card. This credit card offers 40,000 Avianca LifeMiles after your first purchase and an additional 20,000 Avianca LifeMiles after you spend $1,000 in 3 months. You must use the promo code SB4060 during the application process. The new credit card arrived yesterday. In this post, I will show you the card art, the welcome documents and the rewards details. Here is the front and back of the credit card:
I had this Banco Popular Avianca Vuela Credit Card in 2016 and here is what the old credit card design looked like. The main difference is that the credit card numbers moved to the back of the credit card. I like the new design more, it looks cleaner to me.
If you have USPS Informed Delivery, you should be able to spot this envelope coming from San Juan, Puerto Rico (where Banco Popular is located).
Here is the welcome letter that came with the credit card. I called the phone number to activate the credit card. I then went to the website listed to set up my online account. This credit card has a $149 annual fee.
This is probably the most depressing rewards details brochure I have ever seen for a travel rewards credit card. The only part that I thought was important was regarding the welcome bonus miles and how quickly they post to your Avianca LifeMiles account.
There were also a few different credit card terms and disclosures included in the envelope.
I also received this letter regarding the PIN for my credit card. I called the number listed and changed the PIN.

P.S. If you liked this post, I recommend reading my other credit card unboxing posts (sorted by date):
FYI, They’ve waived the $149 AF for me two years running when I called to cancel. This was even though I have put very little spend on it.
That’s good to know. I’m not planning on keeping this CC open long term though.
I’ve tried to apply online several times. The first few times the Promotional Code didn’t work and I couldn’t advance. Then it wouldn’t accept my information on the address page. If this is how they treat customers before they get the card, I can only imagine how they behave after.
That is frustrating. When was the last time you tried to apply? I applied on 7/15 and didn’t have any issues.
Where does it say additional 20k miles after $1,000 spend?
When you click on the credit card link, it will show you all the details of the sign up bonus, including the bonus details.
