New US Bank FlexPerks Transfer Process (Share & Combine US Bank FlexPoints)

Good afternoon everyone.  I have been a big fan of the US Bank FlexPerks Rewards program for a long time and have been earning and burning US Bank FlexPoints since the 2014 Winter Olympics promo when US Bank offered a larger than average sign up bonus based on the number of medals won by Team USA.  Back in March 2016, US Bank changed the number of FlexPoints you could transfer from 120,000 FlexPoints to 20,000 FlexPoints per year.  There is now another change to the way you transfer FlexPoints from one member to another.  Previously, you only needed the FlexPerks account number to transfer FlexPoints to another account, but now you need the FlexPerks account number and FlexPerks credit card number.

I believe there are 2 reasons for this change.  This change acts as a double authentication to make sure you are transferring FlexPoints to the correct FlexPerks account. Before, it was easy to mistype the FlexPerks account number and your FlexPoints would be sent to a complete stranger.  This change also encourages cardholders to keep a US Bank FlexPerks earning credit card.  If you have a FlexPerks credit card with an annual fee, you can convert to the no annual fee US Bank FlexPerks Select+ American Express Credit Card.

With that said, here is the new US Bank FlexPerks transfer process.  First, sign into your US Bank online account and go to the FlexPerks Rewards Portal.  Then click the Manage Points tab and then click the Transfer Points tab.  Then enter the FlexPerks account number and the number of FlexPoints you want to transfer.  Lastly, click the Continue button.

Is the SF Giants Alaska Airlines 2-for-1 Day a Good Deal?

Good morning everyone, I hope you had a great weekend.  I just flew back from Iceland on Saturday night, so I am a little behind schedule on my blog posts.  I have a few posts in the works about my roadtrip around Iceland (1,000+ kilometers in 5 days), my review of a new global WiFi hotspot device that worked very well in Iceland, the final results of my credit card App-O-Rama and more.  But before I get to those posts, I wanted to share my thoughts on the upcoming Alaska Airlines 2-for-1 day promotion with the San Francisco Giants.  Even though this event has not happened yet, I have some good insights about the promotion because I participated in the Virgin America 2-for-1 day promotion with the San Francisco Giants a few weeks ago.  I will also share my strategy for going to the game or buying the discount codes online.

Road Trip Around Canada for $1 / Day with TransferCar

Good morning everyone, greetings from New York City.  I am heading to Iceland today, but before I go, I wanted to share this post about TransferCar.  I wrote about TransferCar two years ago when I rented an RV from Los Angeles to Denver: TransferCar Part 1: Introduction to Free One Way Car and RV Rentals (Part 2, Part 3 and Part 4). Since that trip, I haven’t had a chance to use TransferCar again, but I’ve been following their progress over the years.  As of a few days ago, they now have TransferCar rental cars available in Canada.  You can drive a rental car from Vancouver to Calgary or Toronto for $1/day for 4 days and they will include 1 free tank of gas.

How I did on that US Mint American Eagle Platinum Coin

(Hat tip to Miles Per Day for the title inspiration)

Good afternoon everyone.  Back in July, there was a lot of commotion about the US Mint American Eagle 20th Anniversary Platinum Proof Coin.  The platinum coin went on sale at 10am PT on July 6 for $1,300 and there was a private group who would buy the coin from you for $1,325 (and provide a free shipping label), so you could make ~$20 profit by buying this platinum coin and then selling it to this private group.  Since this was a limited release, I figured I could sell the coin on eBay for much more than $1,325 and make more than a ~$20 profit.  So, how did I do?
