My March App-O-Rama Credit Card Sign Up Bonuses Post

Good morning everyone, I hope you are all having a great week.  By the time you read this post, I will be ATVing around the island of St. Kitts (I know, tough life).  Anyway, I wanted to talk about one of my favorite topics – credit card sign up bonuses.  In March, I discussed Which 10 Credit Cards am I Considering for my March App-O-Rama and then in early April, I wrote about my March App-O-Rama Results.  In this post, I will share with you my plans (if any) for redeeming my miles and points.  If you have any better suggestions than the ones I share in this post, please let me know in the comments.  Thank you!

To get started, I was approved for the Bank of America Alaska Airlines Visa Signature Credit Card and the Bank of America Alaska Airlines Business Credit Card.  Both credit cards offered 30,000 Alaska Airlines miles after spending $1,000 in 3 months along with an Alaska Airlines Companion Ticket (which can now be used on Virgin America).  I have a few other Alaska Airlines Companion Tickets in my Alaska Airlines account, so I will probably not use them all.  60,000 Alaska Airlines miles is worth ~$900 to me (valuing Alaska Airlines miles at 1.5 CPP).  I don’t have an exact use in mind, but I like flying on Virgin America first class when I fly from SFO to JFK.

PSA: Check your American Express OPEN Small Business Savings Preferences (5% Cash Back vs. 2 Membership Reward Points)

Buenos dias everyone. A few months ago, I purchased some items from HP.com using my American Express Business Platinum Charge Card, which offers the choice between 5% cash back or 2 bonus Membership Reward Points per dollar spent on purchases from HP and other select merchants through the American Express OPEN Small Business Savings program.  All American Express issued business cards are part of OPEN – Membership Rewards-earning cards offer a choice between the two, while others like the American Express Starwood Preferred Guest Business Credit Card only offer the 5% cash back option.

5% cash back is clearly worth more than 2x Membership Reward Points, so I was disappointed when I realized that the card defaulted to 2x Membership Reward Points and I had never changed my savings preferences. I chalked it up to experience and switched the settings in my OPEN preferences so I wouldn’t make that mistake again.

Why I Make Kiva Loans & One Woman Brewing Change in Africa

Are you a supporter of Kiva loans? Many in the points and miles world are. Kiva, a micro loaning business, allows you to make loans, for as little as $25, to low-income entrepreneurs and students in over 80 countries. By using a credit card and Paypal, you load money to your Kiva account and then make loans. When the loans are paid back, you can always withdraw the funds or make new loans. In making these loans, miles and points are generated either by completing the minimum spend on a new credit card or by using credit cards you want to accrue miles/points on. Of course, your first priority should be your willingness to fund these loans. I find most miles/points folks do fund Kiva loans because they believe in Kiva and the concept of micro loans.

My Missing Discover It Credit Card Apple Pay Promo Cash Back Just Posted (All $326 Worth)

Good morning everyone, I hope your week is going well.  A few days ago, I received the following email from Discover titled “Important information from Discover” (could they think of a more generic title for an email?).  In the email, Discover said that they underpaid me for my participation in the Discover It Apple Pay promo from 2015.  In the email, Discover promised to award the missing cash back within the next 2 billing cycles.  Luckily for me, my cash back just posted… all $326 worth :)

Downgrading US Bank FlexPerks Travel Rewards Visa Signature & American Express to FlexPerks Select+ and Cash 365 Credit Cards

Good afternoon everyone, I hope everyone is having a great weekend so far.  A few months ago, my $49 annual fee posted on my US Bank FlexPerks Travel Rewards Visa Signature Credit Card.  Since I had spent down the majority of my FlexPoints, I decided to convert my US Bank FlexPerks Travel Rewards Visa Signature Credit Card into a US Bank FlexPerks Select+ American Express Credit Card.  This credit card has no annual fee and earns 1 FlexPoint for every dollar spent with no bonus categories.  This is by no means a good credit card, but it will keep your FlexPoints alive and you can continue to redeem 20,000 FlexPoints for an airline ticket worth up to $400.
