I Paid $4,588 in Credit Card Annual Fees in 2019 – Was it Worth it?

Good morning everyone.  As we approach the end of the year, I decided to take a look at my credit card spreadsheet and see how much my wife and I paid in annual fees this year.  I removed all the no annual fee credit cards and here are the 26 credit cards that have annual fees (sorted alphabetically).  I will break down this list into cards that I am 99% sure that I will cancel, 99% sure that I will keep, and the 50/50 cards that I might keep or cancel.  Read through this post and let me know if you agree or disagree with my thinking.

Prorated Annual Fee Refund Posted After Converting Citi Premier into Citi Rewards+

Good morning everyone.  A few months ago, I converted my Citi Premier Credit Card into a Citi Rewards+ Credit Card.  My new Citi Rewards+ Credit Card arrived a few months ago and the 60 day conversion period just finished.  This morning when I was looking at my Citi online account, I noticed a $50.41 credit on my Citi Rewards+ Credit Card.  After doing some digging, I found out that this is a partial annual fee refund of the $95 from my Citi Premier Credit Card.

Counter Point: Why I Currently Book Flights with Citi Thank You Points Instead of Chase Ultimate Rewards Points

Good morning everyone, I hope you had a great weekend.  First off, the title is not a typo, I have started using my Citi Thank You Points instead of my Chase Ultimate Rewards Points to book a few recent flights.  Secondly, the title is true for me now, but could change down the road.  And lastly, you are totally right to disagree with me and prefer using your Chase Ultimate Rewards Points.  But, let me share my perspective and reasoning with you so that you can see where I am coming from.

Long story short, I am planning an upcoming trip to Africa and will visit a few countries near South Africa.  After checking schedules and prices, I decided to book a South African Airways flight from Livingstone, Zambia (near Victoria Falls) to Johannesburg, South Africa.  Now the question was, should I book it directly with my credit card, or should I use my Citi Thank You Points or Chase Ultimate Rewards Points to pay for the flight?

Huge Score! Citi AT&T Access More Credit Card Thank You Points Adjustments Posted

Good morning everyone, I hope you had a great weekend.  The calendar date may say October 7, but to me, it feels like Christmas morning!  Let me explain.  I just checked my Citi credit card statements and noticed this message on my 3 Citi AT&T Access More Credit Cards.  According to the message, Citi did not reward me the correct number of Citi Thank You Points for purchases made on my Citi AT&T Access More Credit Cards.  Citi is going to make an adjustment to my account in the next 2-3 billing cycles (actually, Citi credited the missing Citi Thank You Points on that statement).

Easy Conversion / Product Change from Citi Premier to Citi Rewards+ Credit Card (10% Rebate Feature Available Immediately)

Good morning everyone.  As a result of my recent July Credit Card App-O-Rama, I now had 2 Citi Premier Credit Cards.  The plan all along was to product change the first / oldest Citi Premier Credit Card into a new Citi Rewards+ Credit Card.  I will keep the second / newest Citi Premier Credit Card as is because I need access to the Citi Thank You Point airline transfer partners.  I called Citi and asked the rep to convert my Citi Premier Credit Card into a Citi Rewards+ Credit Card.  The rep processed the conversion and stated the following:

  • The conversion process would take a total of 51 days, starting on September 5, 2019.
  • The conversion process would be completed on October 26, 2019 (if I wanted to stop the conversion process, I needed to call back before this date).
  • My credit card account number would not change (but the credit card expiration date and CVV code would most likely change).
  • It would take up to 11 days for benefits to kick in (I’m not sure if that is true, by credit card benefits seemed to kick in right away).
  • My new Citi Rewards+ Credit Card would arrive in 10-14 days (but I could continue to use my existing Citi Premier Credit Card until the new credit card arrived).

After the call, I logged into my Citi online account and spotted my new Citi Rewards+ Credit Card beneath my Citi Premier Credit Card.
