Good morning everyone, happy Amazon Prime Day! I couldn’t sleep last night, so I bought a new AmazonBasics 12-Sheet High-Security Micro-Cut Shredder at 3am and then I read Doctor of Credit’s post about Amazon eGift Cards on sale and bought those too. If you do purchase anything today, please consider using my Amazon affiliate link. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Happy 20th birthday Amazon!
Anyway, with the recent news about FTU Advanced Newport Beach, I thought I would list all the meetups and travel conferences that I will be attending throughout the end of the year. These are in chronological order and there may/may not be tickets left to purchase.
Let’s start with a local meetup in San Francisco. This group is relative new, but the turnout of 30-50 people is impressive. They have formal presentations once a month and then breakout discussions afterwards. The organizers of this meetup are very passionate and knowledgeable.
- Where: San Francisco, California (Meetup page)
- When: Thursday, July 23 @ 7PM
Our arch-nemesis friends at First2Board are doing a travel conference in Phoenix later this month. The group will be limited to 50 people or so. I believe a few tickets are still available. I had a great time last year at #WestCoastDO in Phoenix and hope to see some new and familiar faces in the crowd.
I found a really cheap flight down to Orange County in mid August, so I decided to fly down to visit my friends and family. I will do another OC Meetup at In-N-Out, if anyone is interested.
- Where: Tustin, California (In-N-Out @ Tustin District)
- When: Saturday, August 22 @ 12pm
FTU is going back to Dallas for round 2. The host hotel is literally surrounded by airport terminals, so late night check-ins are easy.
- Where: Dallas, Texas (Info and Tickets)
- When: Weekend of September 25-27
Up next is the Chicago Seminars. I think this conference gives you the most bang for your buck. Its 2.5 full days of non stop travel hacking and the $100 price tag is a steal.
- Where: Chicago, Illinois (Elk Grove Village is 10 mins from O’Hare) (Info and Tickets)
- When: Weekend of October 16-18
Since there are no official travel conferences in November, I decided to organize 2 meetups at Centurion Lounges at SFO and LAS. This is crazy and I look forward to seeing how they go. A PR rep from American Express reached out to me about this event. If I can get enough people interested (probably 20-30 people), she can organize something special for us.
- Where: SFO Centurion Lounge and LAS Centurion Lounge (Info)
- When: SFO on Saturday, November 7 (12-3pm), LAS on Saturday, November 7 (6-9pm)
Last but not least, the newly announced FTU Advanced Newport Beach is at the beginning of December. I will be staying at the 4 star suite that is my bedroom back home, but I am sure the host hotel is amazing (December in California is a great place to be).
- Where: Newport Beach, California (Info and Tickets)
- When: Weekend of December 4-6
I don’t recommend that you go to all the above events. Check your schedules, see if there are any events nearby to where you live, and see if you can buy a ticket online or from FlyerTalk/MilePoint. If you are an advanced travel hacker, you will probably not learn a tremendous amount of new tips/tricks, but the networking opportunities are invaluable and the friendships are amazing. I will also have a few more Bay Area Meetups in Fremont, San Francisco, and Sacramento, I just haven’t planned which weekends to do those yet.
If you have any questions, please leave a comment below. Have a great day everyone!
Darn, I’ll be flying out of SFO at 9am on 11/7 :(
Too early! Wait a few hours :)
I’m down for a Centurion meetup, if someone will get me in. I don’t have a platinum card.
I’m sure we can guest a few people in.
I am in for oC meet up, vegas one I am not decided but will let you know.
Awesome, I know the OC Meetup is much easier for you to get to. Have a good night!
Too bad can’t make the July 23rd one in SF… let us know if you going to have any Travel with Grant meetups.
Bummer you won’t be able to make it next week. I’m sure I will have a few Bay Area meetups planned soon. I’m in Phoenix at the end of the month, so hopefully something in SF in early August :)
