US Bank Cash Plus Credit Card Changes to Foreign Transaction Fees (Effective October 1, 2021)

Good afternoon everyone, I hope your Fourth of July Weekend is going well.  I was reviewing my recent statement from my US Bank Cash Plus Credit Card when I spotted this “IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT” about foreign transaction fees.  The statement doesn’t tell you anything about the change, so you need to look at the insert that comes with your paper statement or download the digital insert online to find out what is changing.

The digital insert says that effective October 1, 2021, the foreign transaction fee will be:

  • 3% of each foreign purchase transaction or foreign ATM advance transaction in U.S. Dollars
  • 3% of each foreign purchase transaction or foreign ATM advance transaction in Foreign Currency

Here is the backside of the digital insert that says you can reject the change by contacting US Bank, but that will result in US Bank closing your Cash Plus Credit Card.

I found the current terms for the Cash Plus Credit Card and it currently says “2% of each foreign purchase transaction or foreign ATM advance transaction in U.S. Dollars.”  It looks like effective October 1, 2021, that will increase from 2% to 3%.

The Cash Plus Credit Card is not a good card to use internationally or to make purchases at international websites.  If you plan to make international purchases, use a credit card that has no foreign transaction fees, like the US Bank Altitude Reserve Credit Card.  If you have any questions about this change, please leave a comment below.  Have a great Fourth of July everyone!

20% Bonus Points on US Bank Altitude Reserve from June 1 to July 31 (Targeted Offer)

Good morning everyone, I hope your week is going well.  Yesterday, I received a letter from US Bank regarding a targeted spending offer on my US Bank Altitude Reserve Credit Card.  From June 1 to July 31, I can earn 20% bonus points on my purchases.  This is a targeted offer with a unique promo code, so check your mail and email over the next few days for a similar offer on your US Bank credit card.

US Bank Cash Plus Changes: $25 Minimum Redemption Amount, Postmates Benefit & More

Good morning everyone, happy Friday!  Yesterday, I wrote American Express Changes: $25 Account Reopening Fee, Forfeiting Points on Late Payments & Old Blue Cash Redemptions.  In today’s post, I will cover some recent changes that I saw in my US Bank Cash Plus Credit Card statement.

“Effective June 1, 2021, the minimum redemption amount required to redeem cash back in the form of a statement credit or a deposit made to your U.S. Bank Savings, Checking or Money Market Account will be $25 (previously, it was $0.01).”  This is bad news for credit card holders that earn less than $25.00 in cash back every month.  I love when my statement closes and I can redeem $5.25, or $8.63, or $12.99 as a statement credit toward my credit card bill.  Stating in June, I will have to accrue at least $25.00 in cash back before I can redeem for a statement credit.  Let’s go through the other changes and see what US Bank is up to.

My Real Time Rewards Redemptions on US Bank Business Leverage Credit Card (Observations & Theories)

Good morning everyone, I hope your weekend is off to a great start.  A few months ago, I applied for the US Bank Business Leverage Visa Credit Card.  The credit card offers $750 cash back after spending $7,500 in 4 months.  I had a large bill to pay via Plastiq and used this credit card to meet the minimum spending requirement.  (FYI, there is also a US Bank Business Cash Rewards Mastercard Credit Card that offers $500 cash back after spending $3,000 in 3 months – I will probably get this business credit card next.)

The sign up bonus posted on my first credit card statement and posted as US Bank Rewards Points (kind of like Altitude Reserve Points on the US Bank Altitude Reserve Credit Card, but these points are worth 1 cent each for all rewards).  Instead of redeeming my points for cash back, I enrolled my new credit card in US Bank Real Time Rewards (RTR) and made 2 purchases to redeem the bulk of my US Bank Rewards Points.  Here is what I learned about my new credit card and the RTR process.

$10 Statement Credit Posted for $50 PayPal Purchase (US Bank December 2020 Promo)

Good morning everyone, happy Super Bowl Sunday!  2 months ago, US Bank sent out a (targeted?) promo to US Bank credit card holders where you could earn a $10 statement credit for adding your credit card to PayPal and making $50 of PayPal purchases by December 31, 2020.  This was an easy money maker for me, so I added my US Bank Altitude Reserve Credit Card to my PayPal account and made a $50 purchase.  The $10 statement credit took a while to post to my account, but finally posted on February 5, 2021 (a day after my February credit card statement closed).  If you participated and completed this promo, you should see the $10 statement credit right after your February 2021 statement closes.
