How Much Did I Pay in Credit Card Annual Fees in 2021?

Good morning everyone, I hope your week is going well.  Last year, I wrote How Much Did I Pay in Credit Card Annual Fees in 2020?  I wanted to create a similar post for 2021, so I listed all of our credit cards that have annual fees and sorted them by when the annual fee posted.  Whenever I see an annual fee post, I always call the credit card company to see if there are any retention offers available.  At the bottom of this post, I will also share what retention offers I received this year, which credit cards I closed, and which credit cards I converted.  As a starting point, if I kept every single credit card with an annual fee this year, I would have 26 credit cards and paid a total of $4,468 in annual fees.  Here are our credit cards and annual fees (LT = Laura’s cards):

How Much Money Did I Make from Bank Account Bonuses in 2021?

Good afternoon everyone, I hope you had a great weekend.  Doctor of Credit has a Best Bank Account Bonuses page that he keeps up to date with the best offers each month.  In that master post, he links to individual bank account bonuses with helpful information regarding the bonus details, how to avoid monthly fees, when to close the account, how often you can open a new account, and much more.  For the last 7 years, I have been opening new checking accounts, savings accounts, brokerage accounts, and cash management accounts for the new member bonuses.  Tt the end of each year, I share my results on the blog.  Over the last 7 years, I have made $15,850 in bank account bonuses.  You will receive 1099-INT tax forms every year, so you have to pay taxes on the bank account bonuses, but sometimes you can fund the opening deposit with a credit card and earn miles, points, or cash back.  If you are lucky, you can meet a minimum spending requirement by funding a new checking account or reach a high spending target to earn more rewards.  Here are my results from the last 7 years with links to corresponding blog post summaries:

Drum roll please… Here are the 13 new accounts I opened in 2021:

Reminder: Max Out 10% Citi ThankYou Points Rebate on Citi Rewards+ Credit Card (10K Annual Limit)

Good afternoon everyone, I hope your week is going well.  One of my favorite sock drawer credit cards is the Citi Rewards+ Credit Card.  This credit card has a pretty decent sign up bonus at the moment (20,000 Citi ThankYou Points after spending $1,500 in 3 months), but my favorite feature of this credit card is the 10% rebate on redeemed Citi ThankYou Points.  You can receive up to 10,000 Citi ThankYou Points rebated each calendar year, you just need to redeem at least 100,000 Citi ThankYou Points in a calendar year.

So why am I reminding you about this today?  The 10% rebate posts to your Citi ThankYou Points account when your statement closes.  If your statement closes on or after January 1, that will count toward your calendar year 2022 10,000 Citi ThankYou Point limit.  Therefore, you probably only have 1 or 2 more statements between now and January 1, 2022.  I will show you how to see how many rebated Citi ThankYou Points you have already received this year and suggest 2 good Citi ThankYou Point transfer partners to use.

Check November Citi AT&T Access More Credit Card Statement for Bonus Citi ThankYou Points

Good afternoon everyone, I hope you had a great weekend.  I was reviewing my recent Citi credit card statements and saw an adjustment on my Citi AT&T Access More Credit Card (no longer available).  The Account Messages section said:

Heads up: We’re crediting your ThankYou account
We noticed you didn’t receive ThankYou Points for some eligible online purchases on your account. We’re on it – we’ve credited your ThankYou account for the points, and you’ll see the credit on your current statement.

Citi identified that my credit card did not earn the correct 3x Citi ThankYou Points on all eligible purchases, so I received an adjustment of 14,140 Citi ThankYou Points, which implies that $7,070 of my purchases only earned 1x instead of the 3x rate for AT&T and online purchases.  This was a nice surprise to see on my credit card statement.

Citi Credit Card Payments Not Showing Online & in Citi App (YMMV)

Good morning everyone, happy Friday.  I was reviewing my recent Citi credit card statements and noticed a bug on the Citi website and on the Citi App.  For some of my credit card accounts, it is not showing the payments in the Transactions section.  I needed to navigate to the Payment Activity page to confirm that the payment actually posted to my account.  I will show you what is happening and how to verify that the payment posted to your account successfully.  If your current balance is $0.00, that most likely means that the payment posted successfully.

Here is what one of my Citi AT&T Access More Credit Card accounts looks like online.
