Tonei’s 2016 Year in Review: A Record-Breaking Year of Travel and Reselling

Buenas tardes from Cancun! I wanted to tell you all a little bit about how my last year went. In 2016, I blew past my previous record for miles traveled, went all in on gift card reselling, moved to Mexico, and picked up a handful of credit cards and bank signup bonuses along the way.

Travel

I flew just over 197,000 miles last year, a significant increase from my previous record of 125,000 miles in 2015. The change was mostly because I did a lot more flying across oceans – my 2015 trips were entirely in the Americas, but I spent a lot more time in Europe and Asia in 2016.

A Travel Hacker Wish List for Santa (Reader Ideas Needed)

Good afternoon everyone, here is the filler post of the weekend. Enjoy!

Usually this time of year, we look back at the predictions we made at the end of 2015 or early 2016 and see how many things we got right and how many things we got wrong. It is usually a little depressing to look back and see how much has changed (for the worse) over the last 12 months. I wanted to put a positive spin on the predictions this year and turn it into a Christmas wish list for Santa. If Santa had the power to make travel hacker lives better, what would you wish for?

Grant’s wish list (in no particular order):

  • I want Chase to create a “no 5/24 rule day” so everyone can be approved for the Chase credit card they really want (I have my eye on the Chase Sapphire Reserve Credit Card).
  • I want the JPMorgan Chase Ritz Carlton Credit Card to change the $300 travel credit (incidentals only) to match the Chase Sapphire Reserve Credit Card $300 travel credit (paid airfare and hotels).

How to Transfer/Combine Hyatt Gold Passport Points to Another Account

Good morning everyone, greetings from Orange County, home of the Frequent Traveler University this weekend.  A few days ago, a friend of mine needed 12,000 Hyatt Gold Passport Points to book an award, so I transferred some points from my account to his account.  In this post, I will show you the process for combining or transferring points.  You can only transfer or receive points once every 30 days.  The process is old school and involves printing out the following form (Hyatt form, my mirror), filling in your account info, your transfer partner’s account info, how many points you want to transfer, getting 2 signatures, and then emailing goldpassport@hyatt.com (just print out the form, take a picture of the completed form, and send it to the email address).

Bank of America BankAmeriDeals: Sun Country Airlines, Hilton Hotels & Airbnb

Good afternoon everyone, I hope your weekend is going well.  I participated in a community garage sale and made $250, mostly from reams of paper from Staples Easy Rebate deals.  I also received an email from Bank of America this morning about new BankAmeriDeals (similar to AMEX Offers).  When I log into my Bank of America online account, here are all the BankAmeriDeals I see:

How to Request Missing or Lost Virgin America Credit Card $150 Discount Companion Code

Good morning everyone, I hope you had a great weekend.  I played tourist in San Francisco and rode a bright yellow GoCar around the city, down Lombard Street and up to Coit Tower, then I had a delicious dinner at Boudin’s at Fisherman’s Wharf.  Anyway, I have an important post for anyone with the Comenity Virgin America Premium Visa Signature Credit Card.  I was recently approved for this credit card during my June 2016 App-O-Rama.  As a cardmember perk, you get a companion code discount worth up to $150 off a Virgin America flight every year you pay the $149 annual fee (Virgin America’s version of the Alaska Airlines companion pass).

Virgin America $150 Discount Off Companion TicketThe terms and conditions of the discount companion code say that the code will be emailed 6-8 weeks after you paid the annual fee.  I paid the annual fee longer than that, but I did not receive the email from Virgin America (it could have been mistakenly deleted, went to spam, or just never sent – I don’t know what is more likely).  In this post, I will show you how to request the missing or lost Virgin America discount companion code.
