Should you Downgrade to the No Annual Fee US Bank Club Carlson Rewards Visa Credit Card?

(Hat Tip to Mike for the idea)

Good morning everyone.  A few days ago, I wrote US Bank Club Carlson Visa Signature and Business Cardholders Receiving Free Night E-Certificate (Different from Anniversary Night Certificates) which showed that US Bank / Club Carlson is sending out free night certificates to cardholders.  I received a letter for my US Bank Club Carlson Premier Rewards Visa Signature Credit Card and my US Bank Club Carlson Business Rewards Visa Credit Card.  Other readers commented that the no annual fee US Bank Club Carlson Rewards Visa Credit Card also received a free night certificate.

That got me thinking… if everyone got a free night certificate, is the US Bank Club Carlson Premier Rewards Visa Signature Credit Card worth $75 more than the no annual fee US Bank Club Carlson Rewards Visa Credit Card?  If you look at the Club Carlson credit card comparison page, you will only see the 3 versions that have annual fees.  If you scroll all the way to the bottom of the page, click the link to view the no annual fee Club Carlson credit card.

1 Month Approval Process for US Bank Cash Plus Credit Card

Good morning everyone.  Last month, I wrote July 2015: My 8 Credit Card App-O-Rama Game Plan where I shared my thought process on my upcoming App-O-Rama.  On the list, was the US Bank Cash Plus Credit Card.  The sign up bonus is small ($100 bonus after spending $500 in 3 months), but the 5% rotating cash back categories was intriguing.  This credit card has the potential to generate $400 in cash back every year (5% of $2,000 = $100 x 4 quarters = $400 yearly).  Since I already have the US Bank FlexPerks Visa and AMEX, Club Carlson personal and business, this was the only other US Bank credit card I was interested in.

If you have never applied for a US Bank credit card or have a hard time getting approved for US Bank credit cards, I recommend Freezing your ARS and IDA Credit Reports before applying.  I have had great success after freezing both of these smaller credit bureaus.

When my App-O-Rama date arrived (July 14), I applied for the credit card…

US Bank Club Carlson Visa Signature and Business Cardholders Receiving Free Night E-Certificate (Different from Anniversary Night Certificates)

Good Saturday morning everyone (I am writing this post at 12:02am).  Earlier Friday night, I saw a few tweets from @Tym2Trvl about a letter he received from US Bank regarding a free night certificate from Club Carlson.  Luckily, I got the same letter today and have uploaded the letters for my US Bank Club Carlson Visa Signature Credit Card ($75 annual fee version) and my US Bank Club Carlson Business Credit Card.

Coincidentally while calling US Bank to activate my US Bank Cash Plus Credit Card (only took 1 month between applying and receiving the credit card, that’s a story for another blog post), I asked the rep about the letter.  He did not have much info to share, but he did say the letter was probably sent directly from Club Carlson and was not related to the free night certificate after spending $10,000 on the card.  I can confirm that I have not spent $10,000 on my personal or business Club Carlson credit cards in the current year.

The letter says that I will receive an E-Certificate valid for 1 night at any Carlson Rezidor (Club Carlson) hotel worldwide.  The E-Certificate would arrive via email directly from Club Carlson.  At the bottom of the letter, the disclosure says the E-Certificate will post to my Club Carlson account within 6-8 weeks and will be good for 12 months from issuance.

US Bank Cash Plus Q3 Categories: Any MS Opportunities?

Good afternoon everyone.  I was recently approved for a US Bank Cash Plus Credit Card (still waiting for the card to arrive in the mail).  However, the credit card already shows up on my US Bank online account with a link to enroll in Q3 cash back categories.  This is my first time looking at US Bank’s cash back categories and here are my thoughts on the enrollment process and the cash back categories.

July App-O-Rama Update: Several Reconsideration Calls Required to be Approved for 6 New Credit Cards

Warning: if you are just starting out with rewards-earning credit cards, please do not apply for several credit cards at the same time.  You are responsible for your credit history and credit scores.  You have been warned…

Good evening everyone.  Last month, I wrote July 2015: My 8 Credit Card App-O-Rama Game Plan and I shared my plans/reasoning for applying for the below 8 credit cards.

App O Rama July 2015

After listening to your feedback and suggestions, I decided to make some changes to my App-O-Rama plan.  The table below shows the 7 credits that I ended up applying for.  Here are my reasons for not applying for a few of the credit cards:

  • The Barclays Arrival Plus Credit Card was not available for new applications on my App-O-Rama date.
  • I couldn’t get the targeted 75,000 offer on the AMEX Business Gold Rewards Charge Card, so I decided to wait for a better public offer.
  • I forgot that Citi’s “8 Day Rule” applies to personal and business credit cards, so I decided to apply for the Citi American Airlines Business Credit Card instead of the Citi Hilton HHonors Visa Signature Credit Card.
  • I decided to go for the Bank of America Spirit Airlines Credit Card instead of another Bank of America Virgin Atlantic Credit Card.
