Around the World in 24 Days: Day One

Buenos días everyone, I started my journey to become an SAS EuroBonus Millionaire on Sunday night. Here’s a rundown of the first 24 hours.

Flight 1: American Eagle 4781 DCA-JFK (Embraer 175)

I started my trip Sunday night with a short hop up to New York on American Eagle, booked with 4,500 Alaska Airlines miles + $19. I took Metro to the airport, and the Clear line saved me a good amount of time at security (one of the only times that’s been the case).  Before the flight, I used my Citi AAdvantage Executive Credit Card one last time to visit the Admirals Club at DCA – my account finally got hit with the annual fee increase instituted by Citi last year, and I decided it wasn’t worth $550 a year to me, so I called to cancel while I was still in the lounge.

Around the World in 24 Days: Preparing for Takeoff

Buenos dias everyone, I’m getting ready to take off on my 24 day round-the-world trip for the SAS EuroBonus Millionaire promotion so I thought I’d share a few updates on the final planning stages.

Hotels

At this point, I have all of my hotels booked except for the very end of my trip (Taipei, Denver, and Boston). Since many of the destinations I’m traveling to are fairly inexpensive, I ended up doing a lot of cash bookings, but I do have points redemptions with three different hotel programs scattered throughout.

What Should I Do with my Stash of 200K Radisson Hotels Americas Points?

Good afternoon everyone.  A few weeks ago, I wrote Reminiscing About and my Plan for my US Bank Radisson Rewards Premier & Business Credit Cards.  In that post, I covered the history of events from Club Carlton to Radisson Rewards to Radisson Hotels Americas and all the major changes in between.  I also covered the upcoming credit card changes and ultimately decided to keep my current credit cards as is and let the product changes occur (to get the prorated annual fee refunds).  But the next big question to answer is: What should I do with my stash of 200K Radisson Hotels Americas Points?  I don’t have an exact answer, but I will share some of the best options that are currently available.

First off, I have both a personal and business Radisson Hotels Americas account with a combined point balance of around 200K points.  Remember, you can easily move points between accounts, just call the customer service number (888-288-8889).

The easiest option would be to redeem your points for an award stay within the Americas.  Here is the award chart for all hotels in the Americas.  Most of the best properties in the Americas are in the 60K – 75K range per night, so I should be able to get about 3 nights in a nice Radisson Blu property.  If you are not interested in an award stay in the Americas, keep reading to find out what other options are available.

Have you Read my Most Popular Posts of 2021?

Good morning everyone, happy New Year’s Eve!  Every year, I like to check out my stats from Google Analytics to see which blog posts were the most popular.  I created 2 lists by looking at all blog posts written in 2021 and then I looked at which posts were read the most in 2021, but written in previous years (#stayingpower).  I will list the blog posts from top to bottom based on pageviews, share the original published date, and provide a short summary of each blog post.  If you are curious, here were the most popular posts from 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020.

2021’s Most Read Posts (Written in 2021)
Wells Fargo Discontinues Temporary Debit Cards & ATM Access Code Feature (Effective April 1) (2/12/2021) – This post has received over 300K pageviews since going live in February and makes up 25% of my total pageviews for the year.  I had no idea that this post would be so popular, but it shows how many Wells Fargo customers were effected by the loss of temporary debit cards and ATM access codes.

My Retention Offer on Chase Marriott Bonvoy Premier Plus Business Credit Card

Good afternoon everyone, I hope your week is going well.  Last week, the $99 annual fee posted to my legacy / grandfathered Chase Marriott Bonvoy Premier Plus Business Credit Card (no longer available for new members).  The only reason I keep this credit card is for the 35K Marriott Free Night Certificate, which I value slightly more than $99.  I decided to call Chase to see if I was eligible for a retention offer.  I explained to the Chase rep that I wasn’t travelling much this year and asked if the annual fee could be waived.  The Chase rep said I could get a $50 statement credit or product change to the no annual fee Chase Marriott Bonvoy Bold Credit Card.  I gladly accepted the $50 statement credit and that credit posted to my account about a week later.
