Midyear Review: My Credit Card Retention Offer Thought Process & Results

Good morning everyone, I hope your weekend is going well. A few days ago, I wrote about my Midyear Review: My 2024 Airline, Hotel & Credit Card Predictions (as predicted, my success rate was terrible). Thankfully, my success rate when it comes to credit card retention offers is much better. Let me ask you a question, if you could make $50, $100, or $150+ from making a phone call, would you do it? If you said yes, then you should make credit card retention offer calls.

In this post, I will share my thought process when it comes to making retention offer calls and then share my midyear results. Here are my thoughts:

1. I call every time a credit card annual fee posts to my account. I have also found that no annual fee business credit cards sometimes have retention offers, but I haven’t had much luck with no annual fee personal credit cards. Lastly, I try to call a few days after the annual fee posts to my account, but several weeks before the credit card payment is due. Continue reading

Citi Custom Cash vs. Wells Fargo Attune: All Bonus Categories Listed & Overlapping Categories

Good afternoon everyone, I hope your week is going well.  I was reading Frequent Miler’s post about the New Wells Fargo Attune card offers 4% back on Disney tickets, dance classes, golf courses and more and that got me thinking about the bonus categories on my 3 Citi Custom Cash Credit Cards (product changes from old Citi AT&T Access More Credit Cards).  I decided to do a deep dive to see how the 4% uncapped bonus categories on the new Wells Fargo Attune Credit Card compared to the 5% capped bonus categories (up to $500 spent per bonus category per statement) on the Citi Custom Cash Credit Card.  I *think* I was able to find all the similarities, but I apologize if I missed any below.

Here is the landing page for the Citi Custom Cash Credit Card which highlights the standard sign up bonus but doesn’t provide much detail on the 5% bonus categories.

Targeted Spending Offer: Uncapped 4.5% Cash Back on Bank of America Business Advantage Unlimited Cash Rewards Credit Card

Good evening everyone.  I just received an interesting spending offer in the mail on my Bank of America Business Advantage Unlimited Cash Rewards Credit Card (direct link).  From July 1 through September 30, I can get an extra 3% cash back on top of the standard 1.5% cash back on all purchases, for a combined total of 4.5% cash back (any category with no cap in spending or earning).  Unfortunately, this is a targeted offer with a unique QR code and registration code.  The offer also states that you will not earn addition rewards if you are enrolled in Preferred Rewards for Business.

For background context, I received this credit card in October 2022 when there was a $500 sign up bonus.  After receiving the sign up bonus, I didn’t use the credit card at all, so I decided to close this credit card in November 2023.  During the call, the rep offered me a $50 statement credit if I kept the credit card open.  I accepted the retention offer and that was the last activity on this credit card since November 2023.  This offer might be targeted to cardholders who have not spent on this credit card in the last 6+ months.

Good afternoon everyone, I hope your weekend is going well.  I am trying to reach 500 email newsletter subscribers and I need your help.  I am currently at 476 subscriber and have added 10 new subscribers in the last 1.5 months.  My newsletter goes out everyday at 4pm PT, but only on days when I have a new blog post (usually 2-3 times per week).  For comparison, I have 4,790 followers on Twitter, 659 followers on Facebook, and 228 followers on Instagram (and I have never posted anything on Instagram).

I really appreciate my long time newsletter subscribers and I hope that I can add a few more subscribers to the team.
