I Paid $4,807 in Credit Card Annual Fees in 2023 – Was it Worth it?

Good evening everyone, I hope your holiday season is going well.  With the end of the year right around the corner, I decided to publish my 2023 version of credit card annual fees I paid this year.  For comparison, here are my previous credit card annual fee posts:

For this year’s post, I decided to break up the list of credit cards into 5 sections:

  • New credit cards with sign up bonuses
  • Credit cards with retention offers
  • Credit cards that have been upgraded / downgraded / product changed
  • Annual fees saved on closed credit cards
  • All other credit cards

Targeted Offer: Upgrade to AMEX Delta SkyMiles Reserve Business Credit Card, Get 50,000 Miles with $5,000 Spend

Good morning everyone, happy Friday!  I was looking at my AMEX Offers this morning and saw an upgrade offer on my American Express Platinum Delta SkyMiles Business Credit Card to the American Express Delta Reserve Business Credit Card.  There might be a similar upgrade offer on the American Express Gold Delta SkyMiles Business Credit Card or on the personal AMEX Delta credit cards, but I don’t have any of those cards at the moment.  I do not have Delta elite status, so the upcoming changes to the Delta elite program do not bother me.  The only reason I have this card it for the Delta TakeOff 15 Benefit (15% Award Travel Discount). Unboxing American Express Delta Platinum Business Credit Card: Card Art, Welcome Letter & Benefit Inserts

Good morning everyone, happy Friday! A few weeks ago, I was approved for the American Express Delta Platinum Business Credit Card and wrote Delta TakeOff 15 Benefit (15% Award Travel Discount) Available within 24 Hours of New Credit Card, But Cannot Use on Existing Award Ticket Reservations. The credit card was sent to me via UPS Next Day Air and came in a well-designed box with the welcome letter and benefit inserts.  I wanted to do an unboxing to show you what to expect when you receive your new credit card.

Here is the front and back of the credit card.  It has the same feel as an American Express Business Platinum Card, but the front is a dark purple-grayish color.

Delta TakeOff 15 Benefit (15% Award Travel Discount) Available within 24 Hours of New Credit Card, But Cannot Use on Existing Award Ticket Reservations

Good morning everyone, I hope your week is going well.  On Tuesday, I applied for the American Express Platinum Delta SkyMiles Business Credit Card through a targeted Delta mailer and was instantly approved.  The reason I applied for this credit card is because it comes with the new Delta TakeOff 15 card member benefit that provides a 15% discount on Delta award travel and I haven’t received the sign up bonus on this credit card before.  I have an upcoming Delta flight from San Francisco to Atlanta to Jacksonville (SFO-ATL-JAX) for an upcoming “free” Carnival Cruise and I wanted to save some miles on that award ticket (and future Delta award tickets I will book).

My Wild & Crazy 2023 Airline, Hotel & Credit Card Predictions

Good morning everyone, I hope you had a great New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day! One of my yearly traditions is to write my predictions for the coming year and you can check out how I did in 2022 here: Let’s Review my 2022 Airline, Hotel & Credit Card Predictions.  I plan on doing a mid-year review in July to see if I am on track, but without further ado, here are my predictions for 2023…

My 2023 Airline Predictions

  • American Airlines or Alaska Airlines will be added as a transfer partner from a transferable points currency.
  • British Airways will change their award chart to calculate the number of Avios needed on a combined distance flown, not on a segment by segment basis.
  • Delta Airlines or United Airlines will introduce a “Miles and Cash” payment option for award tickets (pay 10,000 miles or pay 8,000 miles + $40).
  • Southwest Airlines will work very hard to make up for their December 2022 travel nightmare by offering a transfer bonus from Chase and spending offers on their credit cards in January 2023.
