Is Amex’s Platinum Business Card Worth $12 Extra A Month?

No denying this has been a big year for change in the credit card landscape. Hyatt changed its policy on how cash and points nights are determined, the Citi Prestige 4th night free benefit is fading into the sunset, and Amex updated the Gold card benefits. Just when you’re catching your breath, ouch, American Express strikes yet again with an annual fee increase on the Business Platinum credit card.

Hilton and Marriott Hotel Promos: Take Advantage of These Two!

Hotel points are ours for the taking if we qualify for offers or spend a few minutes of our time gathering them up. And it’s best to have hotel points across a few different programs, too. Make sure you take a look at these two promotions. Here’s an offer for some Hilton Honors points in exchange for credit card spend. Ian at PWAC explains it here. Marriott’s latest “game” can be worth it, so check this promotion out as well. It’s detailed here at PMTTP. Have a great Sunday, everyone!

Bean Around The World: Copenhagen, Denmark

I guess it’s time for a true confession. I’m a coffee snob. And when I travel, I have a passion for supporting local roasters and coffee houses. Let’s just say I’ve BEAN Around the World and I’m feeling like now is the time to start sharing the love… and caffeine, one city at a time. Recently, I had a wonderful holiday in Copenhagen, Denmark. And though it was hard to tear myself away from the sites and all that delicious herring, I did explore the coffee houses, and I’m glad I did. I drank plenty of coffee, talked with baristas, and I’ve got lots to share with you. Let’s open the TWG cafe society doors and talk coffee, Copenhagen style.

I’ll say right up front that Scandinavia gets a lot of buzz for having the current “happening” coffee scene. Part of planning this trip was actually based on wanting to experience the scene myself and see what all the hoopla was about. My impressions run the gamut from being thrilled to being totally disappointed. Continue reading

PSA: Hyatt Elites–Don’t Forget This Valuable Benefit!

Resort fees, destination fees; call them what you want, they all stink. Hotels have a menu (except we don’t get to pick and choose) of junk fees that are attached to our bills for all kinds of “services and amenities” that used to be complimentary or something we could choose to pay extra for. I don’t think any of us really believe hotel claims about why they’re now adding on these fees. From what I’ve read, it seems like these fees enable hotels to still claim their rates are lower and also pay less to travel agents since commissions are paid based on the base rate, not the total rate.

Some of us though do have a work-around for these fees and I was reminded of this recently when booking a Hyatt hotel. As I was finishing up my booking the total rate for the night seemed so high that I actually noticed it. The taxes and fees came to 20% of the total bill.

Keeping track of Marriott’s free night awards just got easier! Take a wild guess how many hotels are now in the Marriott Rewards program? I was way off. Marriott Rewards combined program brings together 6,700 hotels. That’s a lot of hotels to keep track of.
